Helping You Connect With The Animals You Love!
June2010
 Lydia
It's the wonderful month of June and that means summer! A great time for outdoor enjoyment with our animals. Horses are munching on fresh grasses, dogs are playing outside more, and cats are safely exploring back yards or enjoying the scurrying of critters from their windows.

At my home, Josephine the rabbit is loving time outside in her x-pen where she gets to munch on fresh dandelions. And, I welcome her help with the gardening!

I've just returned from a road trip to California to teach in San Francisco followed by a few days off traveling up the coasts of California and Oregon. My travel companion, Amber Rose, enjoyed her first vacation. You can postings of her journey on my FaceBook page. (see link to right)

I hope you are planning summertime fun with your animal loved ones. Stay cool and enJOY!

in Estes Park, CO

I am honored to conduct this wonderful retreat for year number 3. And, this is the first year attendance is open to everyone (not just students). This retreat is for all animal lovers!

The purpose of this retreat is to open your being. We will explore self-loving ways to grow and expand. Good food, wonderful people, and unlimited experiences abound!

The locations are beautiful vacation rental homes. In Oregon, we will stroll upon a stunning beach. In Colorado, we will walk through national forest.

This retreat utilizes the love and wisdom of animals but is not a "how to" talk with animals. If you have questions about what to expect, please ask. Consider this a getaway for YOU! Space is limited so take action if interested.

Gulf Oil Spill... How Can We All Help?

Many people are feeling upset, angry, worried and helpless about the effects of the oil spill. In particular, many people have asked me what can be done to help the wildlife. Remember we all are very powerful if we offer love - not worry, kindness - not anger, and hope - not despair.

As I always teach my students, remember animals can sense what we are feeling. So be honest. Express yourself. Then send healing thoughts, words, and actions.

I was reminded by an email recently that water feels the emotions as well. Dr. Masaru Emoto of Japan (was in the movie "What the Bleep") is the author of "The Hidden Messages in Water". Dr. Emoto's research reveals that water physically responds to emotions and communications. He is suggesting this prayer:

With Our Love
To speak it with sincerity is powerful and humbling:

"Now let's give energy of love and gratitude to the waters and all the living creatures in Mexico Gulf by praying like this:

To the water, whales, dolphins, pelicans, fishes, shellfishes, planktons, corals, algae and all creatures in our Gulf of Mexico.

I apologize.
Please forgive me.
Thank you.
I love you.

Smile when you think of the beautiful creatures in the water and on the land. Admire their beauty, strength and courage. They do feel your love.

Pet Food Recalls and Changes:

Three important announcements...

1)  Iams brand canned cat food recall, issued by Procter & Gamble Company, is voluntarily recalling all IAMS canned wet cat food in North America as a precautionary measure.  Some of this product does not meet quality standards due to low levels of vitamin B1. Contact the Consumer Care group at (877) 340-8826 or via the company's website www.iams.com.

2)  Natural Balance brand dog food recall, issued by Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc., is voluntarily recalling Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Chicken Dry Dog Food in the 5-lb and 28-lb bags with the "Best By" date of June 17, 2011. The recall is precautionary and is due to the potential for Salmonella contamination. Contact Natural Balance Pet Foods Customer Service at (800) 829-4493 (8am - 5pm, PDT) or visit www.naturalbalanceinc.com.

3)  Natura Company has sold out to Procter & Gamble Co. They are the makers of Innova, EVO, California Natural, Healthwise and Karma. Unfortunately, it is common that once a large company (that is not known for quality and healthful ingredients) purchases smaller healthy pet food companies, the quality eventually decreases. This means the product will look the same to you but can have different ingredients in the near future - thus affecting the health and well being of your animals. Begin to shop for other brands and begin to switch over gradually now!

As you can see from item #1 with a low vitamin issue, Proctor & Gamble is cause for concern with ingredients safe to your animal's health. Also, they are notorious for severe animal torture with experimentation on their cleaning and household products. Please choose other products and do not support this company.

Horse Wormers, Toxic Reactions & Natural Alternatives

From Holisitic Horse Magazine, written by Shari Frederick:

You might be surprised to learn the outcome of drug companies' clinical studies, as well as consumer complaints on record.Today's horses are experiencing extremely adverse side effects to chemical wormers at an alarming rate!

Ranging from mild to severe, stress reactions within one hour of chemical worming may include:

-Loss of control resulting in the horse dropping to the ground
-Tongue hanging from mouth accompanied by drooling
-Swollen neck
-Puffy lips and tongue
-Noticeably red gum burns
-Colic
-Allergic reactions
-Laminitis
-Various gut disturbances

-Skin reactions vary, but include hives followed by bald patches. Most visible problems appear to subside within an hour.

Non-toxic, natural dewormers and herbs are biodegradable and often assist in repelling external parasites.

Herbs that are successfully used for their worming properties:
Wormwood
Black walnut (avoid walnut shavings for bedding)
Tansy
Rue
Fennel seeds
Clove buds
Ginger
Red clover
Horseradish
Thyme
Sienna
Cayenne pepper
The essential oil lavender, a parasiticidal, is known to help combat parasites.

Learn options for keeping your horses healthy without regularly pumping chemicals into their systems. As with vaccines...just because it is has been an acceptable health practice does not mean it is safe. We are always learning. Work with a holistic veterinarian whenever possible.

Read the full story in Holisitic Horse magazine. I highly recommend this magazine to all who love horses.

FOR THUNDER AND OTHER ANXIETY IN DOGS:

These companies both make an excellent product to help your dog with fears. Many of my clients have used them successfully. 4th of July and thunderstorm season are very stressful for some dogs. Also, general fear from past trauma can be comforted by these products as you help your rescue animals recover.

FOR GREAT CHEWS, HEALTHY SNACKS, AND EARTH FRIENDLY TOYS:

This company has excellent products. They support animal sources for ingredients from humanely raised animals. Prices are excellent - especially for bully sticks. They have many items for dogs and some for cats. THEY CARRY A VERY GOOD PUMPKIN DIGESTIVE PRODUCT - important to know for those of you learning that pumpkin is hard to find recently.
