Dunham Fund supports Patient Education at Provena Mercy Medical Center

Provena Check Presentation

Chairman, Stewart Beach, presents Dunham Fund grant to Provena Mercy's Capital Campaign Chairs, Dr. Tom and Trudy Huberty, at Mercy's Centennial Gala on May 21, 2011.

Dunham Fund Chairman, Stewart Beach, presented a grant to Provena Mercy Medical Center at the hospital's Centennial Gala on May 21, 2011.  In Mr. Beach's words, "When John C. Dunham, Aurora businessman and philanthropist, created the Dunham Fund, his intention was to use his personal resources to assist others in the Fox Valley to attain heights they may not have attained without the benefit of such assistance.  As a man with an entrepreneurial spirit, he wanted to create a more comfortable, safer place for mankind to live and prosper.  Since Mr. Dunham's death in 2006, the Dunham Fund's Board of Advisors continues to honor his legacy through annual grant making and scholarship programs which enhance the quality of life of our area citizens through educational programming and community development."

The Advisory Board feels that the Medical Center's Century of Powerful Healing Room Renovation and Privatization Project is important to the community. The Fund's lead gift of $205,000 to the hospital will provide a state-of-the-art, technologically-advanced delivery system for educational televised programming that will be easily accessible 24 hours a day to the patient in his private room and to health care providers throughout the hospital.  The educational hardware and software will be used to orient, instruct, and discharge the patient with information specific to his medical condition and will be an integral part of the physician's treatment protocol for individual patients, with a direct link to their electronic medical records.  The TGER-7 system will also be utilized for the ongoing education and training of the hospital's health care professionals.  The Dunham Fund Advisors believe that this project will enable Provena Mercy Medical Center to continue to provide quality healthcare to better-informed patients and care providers well into the next century.

Mr. Beach also commented that Mr. Dunham had spent some time at Mercy during his later years and that he and the Advisors that visited John were very impressed with the compassionate and quality care provided at the medical center.  The Dunham Fund has also provided scholarship support to Provena Mercy and other local hospitals and health care organizations through its Dunham Nursing Scholars program and health education program grants.
