LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Our Character Development Team has designed a school-wide positive behavioral program that targets the 3 "R's" - Ready, Responsible & Respectful.  The "Fill the Bucket" campaign began with Mrs. Ogden reading a related book, HAVE YOU FILLED A BUCKET TODAY?  We then held an assembly to introduce the program to the students.  The students earn blue tickets throughout the day when they demonstrating the three qualities.  Then they place them in the buckets hanging outside the office.  Every Friday a drawing is held and a student from the primary level and intermediate level receives a coupon for the school store.  At the end of each month, there is a special drawing and two students from each level also will receive a coupon.

Mrs. Danielle DiTraglia, our new guidance counselor has been visiting each classroom to conduct a lesson on bullying prevention.  In the primary grades, she reads various children's books that contain a message about an aspect of bullying prevention.  In addition, the children participate in a group discussion about different types of bullying and how to stop bullying.  In the intermediate grades, the students signed an anti-bullying contract.   They also discussed the role of a bystander in bullying and various ways to take a stand against bullying.  Mrs. DiTraglia has begun to implement The Second Step program.  This program is the official guidance program for the Warwick Public Schools.  The program is divided into three units that focus on empathy training, problem solving, and anger management.  Mrs. DiTraglia will visit each classroom once a month to conduct a Second Step lesson.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mrs. DiTraglia at 734-3535.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year!!

 LETTER FROM THE PTO

Welcome back to all Cedar Hill families! We hope everyone had a nice holiday season and vacation! As we begin 2012, the PTO is in the midst of planning many upcoming activities. We are looking forward to many enjoyable events and welcome anyone who would like to be involved in the planning of these activities. The Highlighter is a great resource for upcoming dates and contact information as are the monthly PTO meetings. Our first meeting of the New Year is Monday, January 9th at 7pm and we hope to see many of you there.

As you may have noticed, barrels have been placed in the parking lot to help remind us to park in the designated parking spots and not beyond. This is an important safety rule and is critical to allow safe pedestrian crossing as well as smooth entrance and exit of cars and busses. We have been lucky so far with snow accumulation (at least for parking!) but when the snow comes, these barrels will clearly identify the parking area limits. Much effort and time has gone into making the existing parking area as safe as possible so please take the time to read over the parking lot guidelines and follow the rules. You may also notice an increased police presence in the parking lots that will be there to ensure that safety guidelines are followed. If you are interested in assisting with parking lot monitoring, your help would be very much appreciated!

Pictures to be included in this year's yearbook are needed! If you have any pictures taken at school events, classroom activities, etc., please let us know! The more pictures we have, the better our yearbook will be and the more smiling faces will be included!

If you have any questions regarding the PTO please always feel free to contact us or any Board member. We are always looking for new ideas and perspectives! Cedar Hill is all our children's school and the more parent involvement, the more we can provide for the kids.

Best wishes to all Cedar Hill teachers, families, and staff for a happy and Healthy 2012!
