 LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Cedar Hill families,

With the distribution of report cards on Monday, November 14, 2011, our second quarter is officially underway.  We had a very busy first quarter with the implementation of the new Administrators' and Teachers' evaluation system, Journeys - our new Reading program and in Mathematics a new scope and sequence.

For all three initiatives, I will do a presentation at one of the monthly P.T.O meetings.  This month I will be sharing information regarding the new Administrators' and Teachers' evaluation system. A power point presentation will focus on the development of Professional Growth Plans and Student Learning Objectives.  The January meeting will be on Mathematics and Reading will be in February.

The faculty continues to participate in the district's professional development workshops.  Teachers have been scheduled to attend the Study of the Standards: Common Core and Response to Intervention in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Two of our faculty members are part of the Math writing team working with the DANA Center in developing Units of Study that follow the scope and sequence.

As you know I have been on the road to recovery since my last surgery in July.  I am pleased to inform you that I will be returning to a full-time status and would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and support.  Mr. Ray O'Connell and Mrs. Linda Cournoyer did an excellent job filling in on those days that I was out.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and enjoyable Holiday Season!

 LETTER FROM THE PTO

Dear Cedar Hill Families and Staff,

Wow! The first quarter of the school year is over and we are off to a great start! The PTO has sponsored many exciting events and there are many more to come. Many families enjoyed the Fall Book Fair and Halloween Party. After School activities are off to a great start and we look forward to more to come! Many committees have started their activities and planning and there is always an opportunity to help out with the many programs throughout the year.

The School Store is back and many children look forward to visiting it on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school to purchase classroom supplies. It has been carefully stocked with items that teachers recommend and is a convenient place for your children to stock up and save on materials!

As winter quickly approaches, a few reminders:

As the snow starts to fall and accumulate, it is critical to follow the parking lot guidelines and adhere to the drop-off procedures and designated parking areas. These guidelines were created to keep our children safe in our existing parking lot and if everyone follows them, getting our kids to and from school should run smoothly during the difficult winter months.

Teachers were so appreciative of the many classroom supplies that families generously donated at the start of the school year! As the year rolls on, these supplies become depleted and your child's teacher may need or request additional supplies. Feel free to check with your child's teacher if you are able to replenish their inventory!

With the holidays approaching, your class representative may contact you with ideas for a class gift. This opportunity is a great way to purchase something nice for your child's teacher and help you with holiday shopping!

Our next PTO meeting is this Thursday, November 17th at 7pm. These meetings are a great source of information and dialogue about Cedar Hill. It is great to see all the parents and teachers who regularly attend and we love to see new faces! Hope to see you there!

If you aren't able to attend a meeting and have any questions or ideas, please feel free to contact us, or any member of the board. We are always looking for input and ideas!

We want to thank all the wonderful families and teachers for their time and efforts toward Cedar Hill! Our school has an amazing group of dedicated teachers and families that enrich the lives of our children everyday! Hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday season!

Parking Lot Monitors

Thank you to all Moms and Dads who are volunteering their time to help out as Parking Lot Monitors!    If you can spare 25 minutes, even just once, from 8:15 a.m. to 8:40 a.m, then please consider taking a turn to help our children walk safely from the drop-off area and across the crosswalk to the school.  Contact Cheryl Maynard at themaynards6@verizon.net to sign up for one or more mornings.  Each time you volunteer to be a parking lot monitor, your name will be entered into a monthly raffle

CEDAR HILL SCHOOL STORE

HOURS OF OPERATION:

Due to an overwhelming response, the Cedar Hill School Store will now be open on Tuesdays for grades K-3 students ONLY and Thursdays for grades 4-6 ONLY. We feel this will better serve the students, as the store has shown to be a great success.  Most merchandise is priced from 10 cents to $2.50 and is appropriate for the classroom. Store hours are from 8:20-8:40am. Gift certificates are also available in any denomination for parents and coupons are available for teachers. The 6th grade students are off to a good start in their business venture and we wish them continued success.

PROJECT UNDERCOVER

Please support Project Undercover Rhode Island! The girl scout troops of Cedar Hill are collecting unopened packages of diapers, socks and underwear for RI children in need. Please deposit donations in the collection box near the main office by Wednesday, November 23rd. Thank you for your help with this service project!
