Digitization helps disabled student 'keep pace'
Board Recognizes FILE-X for Donation
West Conshohocken, PA - July 23, 2010 - Somerdale Park School Board officially acknowledged FILE-X during its June meeting for donating the digitization of books and other learning material to a student with limited mobility and other disabilities.
FILE-X's preparation and scanning specialists donated their time after hearing of the student's need to have a digital copy of his books and workbooks, but no funding to do it.
The documents were imaged in black-&-white and color and converted to PDF+hidden text. Following an import into specialized software, the 5th-grader was able to complete his schoolwork with the rest of his class.
"The outcomes have been incredible," said Marge Walsh, an occupational therapist who works with the student.
"The scanning services provided by FILE-X have enabled this student to access the 5th-grade curriculum independently, allowing him to successfully keep pace with his peers in all academic areas," Walsh said.
"Thank you doesn't quite cut it! The gratitude we have for FILE-X's support is immeasurable.  They have made such an incredible difference this year for our entire team," she said.
