Greetings!

What's the perfect way to spend a fall day?  For a team of North
Rich making a Gospel balloon flower at the fair
Rich Stover sharing the Gospel
Jersey Child Evangelism Fellowship® volunteers, it was going to the fair.  Besides all the usual fair attractions--games, fair food, bake-offs and plenty of merchandise--they had the opportunity to share the Gospel message with at least 75 children and counsel 6 of them for salvation.  We also had the opportunity to talk with several adults about how CEF can help their church more effectively reach children and their families.

On September 29th, CEF had a booth at the Eastern Christian Children's Retreat Annual Country Fair.  Rich Stover ministered through Gospel ballooning and other volunteers helped kids make Gospel bracelets with the colors of the Wordless Book.  The message of salvation was shared briefly but clearly through both activities and children were given the opportunity to trust Jesus as Savior.  All kids who passed through the booth also received information about CEF's Truth Chasers Club and Wonderzone.com for follow-up.

The Priority of Prayer

"Prayer is the mighty engine that is to move the missionary work." ~ A.B. Simpson

As the local CEF committee has met for strategic planning sessions this fall, one of the themes that clearly emerged was a renewed emphasis on the priority of prayer in sustaining and advancing the work.  CEF's third culture point is "The Importance of Prayer as Our Foundation."  It is described as follows:  "It is not the work we do, the meetings we hold or the decisions we make that bring the greatest advances in the work; it is the time spent before the throne of God in prayer, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that brings power, laborers and resources into the ministry."

There are two key ways we would like to invite you to participate in praying for the ministry of CEF.

1) Join or form a prayer band.
A prayer band is two or more people from at least two families meeting weekly (in person, by phone or internet) to pray specifically for the work of CEF.  To be part of a prayer band, just find at least one other person who will commit to pray with you weekly.  Please email or call the CEF office to let us know about your prayer band and so that we can keep you updated. Beginning in November, the CEF office will provide a weekly brief list of current prayer requests by email for prayer band members.  Our goal is to see at least 10 new prayer bands begin this year, with a goal of 50 prayer bands in the next five years.World Day of Prayer logo

2) Participate in CEF's World Day of Prayer.
On November 7 , 2012, prayer will take place for 24 hours continuously as CEF workers worldwide pray for the ministry. Together we will thank the Lord for what He has done in the ministry and pray for what we hope He will do. Join us in praying for the children, the workers and the ministry.  Locally, we are planning for 12 hours of prayer.  Would you commit to pray for CEF for 30 minutes on Wednesday, November 7th?  A guide with praise and prayer requests will be provided on request.  Sign up for a time slot by visiting theNorth Jersey CEF World Day of Prayer web page or by calling the CEF office.

Thank you for your prayers that the boys and girls will hear and respond to God's wonderful message of salvation.

For the children and their teachers,

Twyla Pellegrino
Local Director

Are you ready for Christmas?

How about Thanksgiving?  At our house, our preparations have been limited to picking up a few gifts during the summer months.  The holiday season, though, is right around the corner.

As you make preparations this year, look around you at the kids going back and forth to school.  Most of those children don't understand the true significance of either holiday. For them, Thanksgiving is a harvest feast and Christmas is all about the big guy in the red suit--and a season for being nice to others. YOU can change that!

Consider holding a Thanksgiving or Christmas Party Club for the kids in your neighborhood.  It could meet in your home, the church, a community center . . . anywhere there's a room and a group of kids.

Party Clubs include an exciting seasonal lesson, fun games and activities, meaningful songs and Scripture memory.  They also include a presentation of the message of salvation and an opportunity to respond to Gospel.  Many parents who will not sent their children to church or Sunday School will let them attend a Party Club

Party Club kits from CEF make holding these parties with a purpose simple and straightforward.  We provide training and help.  If you're not comfortable teaching, we'll even provide a teacher.

We'll have a Thanksgiving Party Club overview at our training on October 16. On November 12 we'll hold a special workshop devoted to Christmas Party Clubs.  Click the links in the text for more information on each event or contact the office.  We hope you'll join us!

Funding & Figures
CEF is a missions organization.  Our ministry is supported by the gifts of God's people, both individuals and churches.

The local chapter has a budget of approximately $87,000 for the 2012-13 year.  Based on previous years' giving, we anticipate that about $51,000 will be raised from our regular donors and fund-raising events (appeal letters and dinners).  This leaves us with a gap of $36,000.  We are thankful that, due to the sale of the CEF property, we have funds in the bank to cover that gap.  Drawing from our account at this rate, however, CEF will rapidly deplete those resources and be unable to sustain ministry (with paid staff) after two years.  The local committee has committed to a goal of raising an additional $10,000 in NEW giving for each of the next five years.  That means we would prayerfully anticipate that giving would increase to $61,000 for the 2012-13 year; $71,000 for the 2013-14 year; and so on.  This is a maintenance plan; to see the work expand, additional resources will be needed.

CEF's policy has always been to ask God and tell His people about the financial needs of the work. We know that God can supply this need through His riches in glory so that we can continue to reach the boys and girls of North Jersey with the Gospel.

Will you please pray with us about this need?  Will you ask God what part He would have for you in meeting the need so the ministry can continue?  $10,000 is a large amount for a local ministry, but if just 28 people would commit to begin giving or increase their giving by $365 throughout the year, just $1 each day, the need would be met.

We are trusting God to do great things as we rely on Him to meet our needs.  We appreciate your partnership in God's ministry.
