Easy ways to create backyard relaxation and fun
 Getting the family together outdoors can be as easy as setting folding chairs on the lawn, firing up the bar-b-que, and erecting the badminton net. With just a little more effort, however, you can create something permanent and more inviting for friends, family and entertaining during our great Colorado summers.
Create a patio! The attractive varieties of patio blocks and steppers makes creating a patio a weekend's task. Design and mark the size and shape of your patio, placing a few chairs and the grill within the marks to make sure it is big enough. Remove any sod from the area and put down landscape fabric to deter weeds. Fill the area with crusher fines that match your patio steppers or block, rake it smooth and lay the patio block in an attractive pattern. Voila!
Add a water or fire feature! Water adds relaxing sound and a sense of coolness to an evening gathering. There are many attractive fountains and fountain/pond combinations that can be purchased at home stores and garden centers. Fire pits provide a warming focus for conversation or contemplation and potable ones can be purchased at many local stores.
Encourage family playtime with a recreation feature! For games in the boules family such as Bocce Ball and Croquet, you only need a flat grassy area. Or get fancier with an actual Bocce Ball lane by removing the sod and installing fine, rolled and pressed gravel. If you have ample yard space, a sand Volleyball court keeps everyone active and the kids at home. Again, remove any sod or organic material, put down landscape fabric and coarse sand and set the poles in cement in the ground. Instant fun!
