President's Report: Tracy Broome
Changing of the guard
Tracy Broome
I am very pleased to assume the role of President for ISHE, and am proud to be associated with an organization that helps promote the profession of healthcare engineering. As always, it is an honor and a privilege to work with people who possess such high professional stands.

In the coming years as ISHE President, I commit to promoting our profession to the up and coming Facility Managers. I will perform the duties associated with my position as ISHE President to the best of my abilities.

I personally would like to express my gratitude to Russ Harbaugh, who provided our organization with strong leadership and the muscle to move our chapter forward. Without his efforts, ISHE would not be the nationally recognized chapter that it is today.

I hope you enjoy this edition of our newsletter. Below you will find worthwhile updates on prior events, information on upcoming activities, an update on ISHE board members, and other helpful information. If you have ideas for future newsletters, please let me know.

Thanks in advance to everybody that is going to jump on board and support ISHE and ASHE! If you have any comments, questions, or ideas concerning our chapter, please do not hesitate to contact me. My contact information is at the close of this newsletter.

Sincerely,
Tracy Broome
ISHE President

Russ Harbaugh Leadership Recognized

Russ Harbaugh
We would like to recognize the many contributions of Russ Harbaugh, not only to ISHE, but to the profession of Healthcare Engineering.

Russ showed excellent leadership qualities in his two year term as ISHE President. He took our chapter to a new level by obtaining Platinum status for the first time in our chapter history. Even during these rough economic times, Russ has grown membership in the society and increased vendor support. He was instrumental in obtaining quality speakers for ISHE events. He was very active in several advocacy issues at the state level of government. He opposed the State of Idaho Department of Safety and Standards  imposing extra fees associated with boiler inspections, appearing in front of the House Stat eAffairs Committee. Thanks to his effort, this bill was killed and resulted in a cost saving to all Idaho hospitals.

Russ exemplifies excellence in everything he does. He is a team player and while achieiving nemerous professional accomplishments, Russ remains a humble, dedicated, and steadfast in his commitment to our profession.

Next time you see Russ, give him a big thank you!

Spring Conference
Cold could not stand in the way of progress & fun!

Shore Lodge McCall

Although it was held among winter weather, our ISHE Spring Symposium held in April in McCall. It was well attended and participants enjoyed learning and networking opportunities.

Past ASHE President, John Wood, presented information on Project Management. Ken Baker from Better Bricks talked about benchmarking your hospital for energy performance. Kevin Van Den Wymelenberg talked about the benefits and value of a "Green Hospital". In addition, Roger Dean, P.E., shared information on how to achieve Energy Star status. Michael Hatten, P.E., talked about energy efficiency for small hospitals. Roger Gehrke provided updates on the new AIA codes and standards process and time lines for its completion. Mark Grimes talked about electronic reporting for disaster preparedness mandated by CMS and the timeline requirements.

We had great support from our vendors and they sponsored a wonderful and informative trade show.

The second annual Breakfast of Champions was a crowd favorite, giving attendees a chance to share ideas and best practices. A dinner at the North Fork Lodge was enjoyed by all. It was nice to just visit with everybody on a more personal level, eat great food and unwind.

All in all. it was a successful conference. Next year's Spring Symposium will be held at the Shore Lodge, per attendees' vote.

Thanks everybody for attending and especially to all the vendors that support ISHE. Great job everyone!

ISHE Board Members
Effective as of April, 2010

I am pleased to announce our new President-Elect is Roger Dean. He will serve in this role for two years. After that time, he will become President of our chapter.  Vince Leedy will serve in the role of ISHE treasurer and Wayne Tuckness will be our Secretary for another two years.

Please recognize these individuals for their dedication to ISHE. Without a strong board, our chapter would cease to exist. I am proud to be working with these individuals, who contribute to not only our chapter, but to the healthcare engineering profession. In just a short period of time as President, I am finding out first hand that serving in this role is demanding.  However, with the help of all or members, I know the burden will be tolerable and worthwhile.

Contact information for these board members is available at the ISHE website. Please click here to view.

3 Levels of Sponsorship
Support our vendors!

ISHE has great vendor support and they are a huge part of our existence. If it were not for their gracious donations, our chapter would be hard pressed to remain fiscally viable. We also depend on their expertise to help build and maintain our facilities, having quality vendors and contractors at our beck and call can help make our difficult jobs a touch easier.

You will notice that we now sell advertising space our our website and in this newsletter. Not only does this give our vendors an opporunity to reach our leaders, it gives us a chance to see what vendors are supporting our chapter. We strongly recommend that you consider these vendors when selecting products and services for your organization.

Please feel free to share these advertising opportunities with vendors that you deal with. If they are interested in sponsoring our chapter, they can contact Tracy Broome, chair of the Vendor Relationship Committee. The levels of sponsorship are:

ISHE Platinum Chapter Status
Once again, we are recognized for our excellence!

ISHE was again awarded Platinum Chapter status with ASHE. In order to keep this recognition, we must meet the criteria required by ASHE.

Among the criteria is the need to sponsor at least 24 hours of annual educational programming for our members. This includes planning regional training events throughout Idaho. We are in the progress of establishing an Educational committee chaired by Roger Dean and are looking for volunteers to assist us in this endeavor.

Communication of information to our members is also key. In order to facilitate communication, we are developing newsletters such as this and other periodic emails containing pertinent information that will be mailed to both members and potential members. If you have information you would like to have communicated, please send it to Tracy Broome.

In order to propel our organization forward, we need to recruit new members. Russ Harbaugh is heading our Membership Committee. If you would like to volunteer to assist on this committee or if you have ideas on how to increase our membership, please contact Russ.

Thank you to everyone that has helped us maintain our Platinum Chapter Status!
