Be More Productive with Dual Displays!
Dual MonitorsDid you know you can connect more than one monitor to most computers?  I have been addicted to multiple monitors for several years.  I have 3 monitors connected to my office laptop.  I typically have email opened on one monitor, a web browser on another monitor and a word processor or spreadsheet on the other.  This allows me to quickly move between multiple applications without continually moving windows around on my screen.

When I first introduce the idea of multiple monitors to most clients they tend to be skeptical.  It may seem frivolous or too much of a luxury.  However, after a few days most users will not give up their second (or third) monitor.  Think about how many programs you have open on your computer at a time.  How often do you switch between 2 or 3 key programs?  How often do you copy data between these programs?  How much more efficient could you be if you were able to have those programs visible at the same time on separate displays?

So what's involved in adding an additional monitor?  Fist of all you need another monitor!  Second you need an additional video interface for your computer.  If you have a laptop you should have one built in.  If you have a desktop, there are USB VGA adapters available.  The total cost for the additional monitor and USB VGA adapter is usually less than $200.00.

Feel free to email me if you would like a recommendation.  Most users can install this equipment on their own, but if you need assistance just give us a call :)

Tech Tip: Backing up and Securing your Files
System Restor Icon
Have you ever lost important or critical data due to a hard drive failure?  Or perhaps because of a virus or malware?  Or even an environmental disaster such as a fire, flood or tornado?  If so, then you know how the pit of your stomach feels when all your hard work is wiped out in a single blow.

Protect yourself with an online backup!  When using a reputable company, online backups are both safe and secure.  Many online backup companies use SAS70 certified data centers and are both SOX and HIPAA compliant.  Several companies offer the first 2GB of storage for free!

Rubsam Consulting uses and recommends I-Drive for individuals and I-Backup for businesses.  Check out the backup section of our website for full details.  While we are partial to the I-Drive/I-Backup solution, you may also want to check out Carbonite or Mozy.  If you have a Dell computer, it may have shipped with Dell Data Safe.  The list goes on and on!  Pick the one you like, but start protecting your data NOW!

Don't Forward that Email!
Have you recently received an email about a scary new virus (that has not been reported in the news media)?  How about an email that is part of a tracking system that will donate money to a charity every time it is Junk EMailforwarded?  Or maybe there is some child with a terminal illness collecting business cards?  These emails and others like them are usually Internet chain letters that are hoaxes.  Never forward any emails of this sort without checking Snopes.com first.  Snopes is an Internet website dedicated to shining the light of truth on Internet Hoaxes, urban legends, myths, pranks and folklore.

Keep an eye on the Hot 25 list for the most active hoaxes and urban legends.
Thank you for taking the time to review our newsletter and feel free to forward it along to anyone who may need reliable computer support with a friendly and warm attitude.

Sincerely,
