Spontaneous

Wake Up The Earth Parade

About The Organization:
The orgins of Spontaneous Celebrations date from the
first Wake Up the Earth
Festival in 1979. This festival was, in part, a celebration of the defeat of the proposed
I-95 extension
through many Boston neighborhoods. The Wake Up the Earth Festival
has taken
place every year since, on the first Saturday in May.

In October Spontaneous Celebrations sponsor the Jamaica Pond Lantern
Parade, a beautiful encircling
of the Pond by people of all
ages carrying handmade,
candle-lit lanterns. At a time
when the season is darkening,
the community turns out to
spread light and express hope.

Spontaneous Celebrations
maintains a community center on Danforth St. in the Stony Brook neighborhood. They host many after-school programs for inner-city kids as well as a
range of classes from toddler drumming to yoga. They
have helped create a vibrant community life in J.P. and have become an essential ingredient in the flavor of the neighborhood.

City Feed and Supply has been a proud sponsor of Spontaneous Celebrations since we opened
in 2000.

Spontaneous Celebrations
relies on volunteers, memberships, grants and donations to keep

their programs going.
