Arc Day at the Texas State Capital

On Tuesday, April 19^th, many of The Arc of the Capital Area staff members, clients and client family members visited the Texas State Capital to advocate against the purposed cuts to services for people with disabilities. We came out strong with our message.

 

Protect the current HCS & CLASS services, support funding for low income housing that allows people to live in the community and don't support funding for state institutions.

The following vital services are provided by The Arc of the Capital Area: Basic Needs & Crisis Assistance, Family & Caregiver Support, Guardianship Services, CLASS, Juvenile Justice Services, Case Management & The Arc of the Arts. Without this funding, thousands of people will lose the critical support they need to live their lives to the fullest. This is a video that our wonderful Lead Art Instructor, Andrew Grimes made to illustrate the important role HCS funding plays in the lives of our clients.

Fashion with HeART 2011

On Thursday, April 28th, 2011, the fashion models and artists arrived at the Nuvola Bar and Gallery for preparations that included awesome hairstyles, make-up andspring clothes to wear in the fashion show. Then the magic began ... when it was my turn, I practiced walking down the cat-walk. The next thing I knew the place was getting crowded and it was time to start the fashion show. All of the fashion models filed in from another room in alphabetical order and each of them had a unique style walking down the runway. I, Lizzie McCrary, strutted and performed all the way down turning and twisting with flairs of dance routines and a big smile across my face and there were pretty flowers in my hair with a peasant blouse and skirt to add. I wore sandals on my feet and jewelry of my own to wear, too. I sure had fun and a real good time both on the cat-walk and performing on stage with a live band! I just wanted to hold that microphone a lot more and sing as loud as my voice could carry the notes. The band was so loud that I couldn't hear myself sing but I did create a lot of hand and arm motions and movements. There were so many models there wasn't enough time to count them all.
