The Golf Channel Comes to Austin
The Arc Will Be Featured Sunday, Oct. 24, 5pm & 10pm CST When Alicia & Dave Baron decided to get married at the US Open in June, they didn't realize they would garner National attention for their non-profits.
Alicia is the Marketing & Events Coordinator for The Arc, and her husband Dave, a PGA Master Professional, is the Director of Instruction for The First Tee of Greater Austin.
" It was fun to feature you in your caddy bibs at the US Open on your wedding day," says John Wheaton, producer for The Golf Channel, "but, when we found out that you both worked by day for non-profits, we thought you'd be a perfect couple to feature in the Chevron Power of Human Energy series."
The segment airs Sunday, Oct. 24, at 5pm & 10pm CST on The Golf Channel.

Obama Signs Rosa's Law To Eliminate the R-Word
Intellectual Disabilities to Replace R-Word Under Law President Barack Obama put his pen to work signing the 21st Century Communications and Vi deo Accessibility Act of 2010 into law this month. He delivered brief remarks on the impact of the law on people with disabilities and celebrated "Rosa's Law" with Arc representatives and the Rosa Marcellino family. The law, which went into effect Tuesday, Oct. 5, substitutes the term "intellectual disabilities" for "mental retardation" in many federal laws. Read more...

An Arc Staff Profile Kaili Goslant: Manager of Case Management Services
Originally from Vermont, Kaili Goslant moved to Austin in 2008, the same year she joined The Arc. She was recently promoted to Manager of Case Management Services.
With a BA in Psychology from Connecticut College, her focus was working with sexual and domestic violence victims. She did an internship in Paris, France, to investigate the differences in victim services between the United States and France.
After college, she worked at the Washington County Mental Health Services with individuals with developmental disabilities who also had high behavioral needs.
"I am involved with The Arc because I am passionate about their mission to help individuals with developmental disabilities to be independent," she says. "It is so important to not only assist clients with services, but to also actively advocate for their rights. I've seen how The Arc has empowered our individuals and families and it's a great feeling knowing that I'm a part of that." What's the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? I turn on the coffee pot, which I set-up the night before. There is nothing worse in the morning than having to wait for the coffee to brew.
What did you want to be when you grew up? First I wanted to be a doctor, specifically a pediatrician. Then I realized the amount of school that would take and I just wasn't ready for that commitment. While applying to colleges, I was planning to go into international relations and be a translator. My goal was to learn Spanish, French and Italian but took one semester of Italian in college and realized that it wasn't for me. It all turned out OK though.
What was your first car? A 1994 Nissan Sentra. It was my dad's car that got passed down to me. That poor car... What's on your bucket list? I always say that I want to travel to all seven continents (though I would be OK missing out on Antarctica). So far, I've only been to North America and Europe so I've got some traveling in my future! Best advice you've received: You can't do it alone!
