Silent Auction Chair: Cindy Spurck
Self-proclaimed "Foodie" is "Building Bridges" Silent Auction Chair

Cindy SpurckOriginally from San Angelo, Texas, Cindy Spurck moved to Austin in 1975. While she says there is no place she'd rather be than Austin, she loves a white sandy beach with a good book and icy coconut water.

Volunteering at The Arc is a family affair. Cindy is the Silent Auction Chair for this year's "Buliding Bridges" Art Celebration & Auction. Her husband Bob serves on the Arc Golf Classic committee, and their daughter previously interned at The Arc. They have four grown children, two grandchildren and a Black Lab named Dazur.

Favorite Austin Restaurants: Uchi (Shag Roll) and Manuel's (Chicken Enchiladas with Verde Sauce)
Favorite Hangout: Uno's at Davenport Market...killer green tea chai!
Last Read: "Shutter Island" by Dennis Lehane. Disturbing, but good. Soon to be released as a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Favorite TV Shows: "Lost" and anything on HGTV
Best Advice Received: From my grandmother MaAnn who lived to be 98, "Find joy, not to be confused with happiness, every day!"
Pet Peeve: Pessimistic people followed closely by narcisstic people
First thing you do in the morning: Make a huge cup of tea (not coffee!) and have a few quiet moments to myself... Priceless!
Drive or be a passenger: I prefer to drive!
Strongest Characteristic: ALWAYS handle adversity with strength, and ATTEMPT to also handle it with grace!

If you'd like to donate to our event, please contact Cindy!

Think Beyond The Label
Advocate for Employ-Ability

Think Beyond the Label makes the case for businesses to employ people with disabilities. It's a partnership of health and human service and employment agencies with federal grants to build a uniform national infrastructure that connects businesses to qualified candidates with disabilities. The goal is simple: Raise awareness that hiring people with disabilities makes good business sense.

Health & Disability Advocates (HDA), a national non-profit organization that promotes income security and improved health care access for children, people with disabilities, and low-income older adults, is spearheading the Think Beyond the Label campaign on behalf of more than 25 states and various national and regional organizations by serving as its fiscal agent. For more information about HDA or the collaborative, please email them. To see a copy of the commercial, click here.
