Thanks For Giving
Thanksgiving: Give Back, Express Your Gratitude
While The Arc of the Capital Area assists people year-round, we will be providing special assistance
to families in need for Thanksgiving. " Thanks For Giving" provides families with a
traditional holiday meal that they would otherwise not be able to enjoy. The Arc
encourages you to join us in helping to make the Thanksgiving Season a happy one
for the individuals and families we serve. If you are interested in contributing
towards our efforts, you can either deliver a holiday meal or make a financial contribution so that we may
purchase gift cards for our clients. If
you have any questions or need further information, please contact Genessee Klemm, Volunteer & Development Coordinator, at
512.476.7044 ext. 204.

Bridge Builders: Evelyn Fitzsimons & Andrew Grimes
Arc of the Art Teachers Really Do Bridge The Gap
Both Evelyn Fitzsimons and Andrew Grimes recently joined the Arc of the Arts Studio, which has been open just more than a year.
Evelyn (aka Shirley Temple pictured below) is originally from San Antonio, but attended the renown Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, R.I. While interning for theNational Institute for Arts & Disabilities (NIAD) in Richmond, Calif., she discovered her desire to work with students with disabilities. She started volunteering as an intern at the Arc of the Arts Studio & Gallery daily in August 2008. Evelyn joined the staff in October later that year. She is now the lead art instructor.
Favorite Movie: "Benny & June" Favorite TV show: "Arrested Development" Best advice you've received: The only stupid question, is the question that isn't asked. Pet Peeve: When people chew with their mouth open Where do you go to get away? Swimming What was your first car? The Volvo I have now. It first belonged to my grandmother and then my two brothers before I started driving it in 2003.

Andrew (aka Jack Skellington from "The Nightmare Before Christmas") also started at the studio as a volunteer and became the studio art instructor in June. Now, he says it's an equal balance between his joy and the students. Andrew's hobbies are playing music and drawing. He actually donated three charcoal drawings to this year's "Building Bridges" art auction. Andrew likes to take it easy and is often found spending time in parks or at coffee shops.
What was the first concert you ever saw? Riders in the Sky, I dressed in my cowboy clothes, boots, hat and all. Do you have a favorite movie or TV show? "The Sword in the Stone," and I'm happy to say that I watched it again recently and it still holds up from age 7. What was your first job? Dog sitting a Syberian Husky and Great Pyreneese. Although the Great Pyraneese was like a polar bear, he was afraid of the dark.
