 Household Recycling Program
The Arc of Texas hosts a Household Recycling Program. You can donate gently used household items you no longer want or need. Since 1972, they have partnered with Thrift Town (5700 Manchaca Road). The Arc of the Capital Area receives a portion of these proceeds.

Special Thank You
The Arc extends a special thanks to Triumph Instruments & Avionics, which recently moved its Austin office to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
The company may be gone, but they left behind everything from binders, desks, tables, bookshelves and a myriad of other office and kitchen supplies.
We particularly appreciate Charlie Riess, Director of Business Development, who helped transport the heavy items, and Jacki Morgan who made the office accessible. They were very kind and generous with their donations and assistance.

Respite Care Changes
Williamson County Respite Services Being Suspended
In order to adjust our services in line with current funding
levels, we are making several changes to our Respite Program. Saturday respites
offered at the Bluebonnet Trails MHMR Center in Round Rock are being suspended.
The respite scheduled for Saturday. Aug. 15, will be our final respite in
Williamson County. Clients who have attended the Respite Care Program at this
location will be invited to attend the Travis County Respite, located in the
Easter Seals of Central Texas facility (1611 Headway Circle, Bldg. 2) in
Austin, which is held the second Saturday of the month from 10am- 2pm. We will
continue to explore future funding opportunities and hopefully this change is
temporary.

"Director's Cut," JD Torian Sr.
JD Delivers More Than Austin's Best Pizza
JD Torian graduated from The University of Texas with an English degree in 1995. Having been named Mr. Greek 1992, it is no wonder that he knew his business niche would be in pizza delivery. College town, frat houses, America's favorite food, JD bought Austin's Pizza in 2005.
JD just joined the The Arc Board of Directors this year. As a member of the Marketing & PR committee, he wants to "up the profile of The Arc" in the community. And he's just the man to deliver.
JD enjoys music, running, camping, reading and can often be found at the driving range or on the golf course. He and wife Leigh have two boys, John-David (pictured above) and Beau.
Favorite Pizza: Pepperoni on wheat crust First Concert: 1982, The Who @ the Astrodome First Car: 1986 Pontiac Bonneville Parisienne Safari Edition Station Wagon Pets: Yes, two dogs. New Staff @ The Arc
The Marketing & Development Department Adds Two New People
Randi Knight, Director of Marketing & Development, welcomes Genessee Klemm, Development & Volunteer Coordinator, and Alicia Parrish, Marketing & Events Coordinator.
A recent graduate of the University of Texas, Genessee interned at the Arc of the Arts Studio before joining the organization. She is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the people we serve and building a group of volunteers who will stay involved with our programs. Genessee enjoys adventures with her friends and family whether it be camping, sailing, kayaking, going to see a band or taking a roadtrip. She is an artist in her own right and is learning to play the fiddle. She loves being near the water and sailed on the UT Sailing Team in college.
Last book you read: I am looking for a new book if anyone has any suggestions. First Concert: M.C. Hammer at the Illinois State Fair What did you want to be when you grew up? A traveler. I was really disappointed when I found out that wasn't a job. I also wanted to be an acupuncturist. Where is your favorite place to eat? Pharah's Mediterranean Restaurant on North Loop Are you afraid of anything? Big waves, but I am trying to overcome my fear by learning to surf. Who fascinates you? I envy how well musicians express themselves.
Alicia graduated from Texas A&M University with a Journalism degree. She has been a professional event producer and golf tournament director for more than 15 years. She previously coordinated a corporate conference for the entertainment industry, two festivals at a winery in Connecticut and took the Dixie Chicks on tour when they were recording their first album, "Wide Open Spaces." She is the founder of Armadillo Golf Players, Austin's premier Co-Ed golf league, and is the Tour Director for the Callaway Golf Galaxy events locally.
First Concert: Aerosmith @ The Spectrum in Philadelphia I'd rather be... golfing Best advice to offer: When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. If you could have lunch with anyone (living or dead), who would it be? Payne Stewart Favorite thing: Spending time with my 14-year-old Maltese Dudley

Art About Town
Arc of the Arts Creating Art for Local Organizations
Recently, Justin Brogna and Cody Baron from Hammerhead Bike Shop received the mural masterpiece created by Arc of the Arts' students Tyler B. and Ruth D. with the help of studio assistant Andrew Grimes in the spirit of donating to the Arc of the Arts' neighbors. Hammerhead Bike Shop is located behind the studio off Burnet Road. This is just ONE of the many ways that The Arc gives back to the community -- and one way our artists are empowered too.
Artists from the studio were also recently commissioned by Meals on Wheels to design "food" art for their new offices.
If you would like to enlist the efforts of some of Austin's finest artists, contact Art Studio Program Manager Jennifer Gildred at 512.524.2371.
