Celebrating 60 Years
Proving Community Service for 60 Years

Newsletter Head Group Founded in 1949 by a small group of brave parents who banded together, our organization has been know as The Arc of the Capital Area since 1995. To celebrate and to show our appreciation of your continued support, we will be honoring one donor with a gift every day, Monday-Friday, except Labor Day, for 60 days starting July 1-Sept. 23.

During the years, The Arc has become recognized as the go-to organization for people with disabilities in Central Texas. We are instrumental at increasing the self-sufficiency of people with disabilities by developing and strengthening the care-giving abilities of their families and promoting community awareness of disability issues.

In 1991, The Arc became a Medicaid Community Living & Support Service (CLASS) provider. In 2008, we served more than 2,000 adults and children with physical and developmental disabilities.

Thank you Central Texas for caring for all of your citizens! Here's to 60 more years. That's something to celebrate!

Pam McDonald: Volunteer Extraordinaire
"Building Bridges" Silent Auction Chair

Newsletter Head GroupIf you are fortunate enough to win one of more than 125 silent auction items donated at this year's gala, thank Pam McDonald. She's (almost) single-handedly collected each item.

Born and raised in Dallas, Pam moved to Austin in 1978. She attended Texas Tech and SMU as a dance major, finally finishing with nursing school. Pam always wanted to be a nurse, but she now wishes she was a lawyer.

This is Pam's first year to volunteer for The Arc... but it won't be the last. She's done an amazing job. "When I volunteer, I work like they are paying me a million dollars a minute," she says. And she's not kidding! This gem, shown here with her daughter Kelly, is a keeper. We couldn't possibly thank her enough.

Career Highlight: Delivered baby in Honduras, alone
Best Advice I've Gotten: "Always do the right thing," from my Dad, and it's the best advice I can offer too
Pet Peeve: Snobby people
Favorite Place to Eat: Fonda San Miguels
First Car: Pink Jeep
If I could have lunch with anyone... It would be The Beatles
