Greetings!

We are excited to launch the first edition of our newsletter, "Structural Moments".

Through this medium, we will take a few 'moments' to connect with you, our valued clients and colleagues in the design and construction community. We will exchange ideas, provide some useful information and keep you informed of services we offer.

The current recession is becoming a defining moment for our industry. We must ask ourselves some tough questions. What can we do to guide our firms to first adapt and to ultimately thrive in the midst of this unpredictable economy? What new actions must we take now to improve our competitive position today to prepare for a faster recovery ahead?

In my opinion, the answer to those questions can be reached only if we clearly understand what is valuable to our clients and what made us successful in the first place, recession or not. After 21 years of practice and 6 years since founding this firm, I am still deeply passionate about structural engineering. I immensely enjoy the design process and love to see what we design get built.

I hope you and your business are doing well. We want to hear from you your thoughts, feedback and what you feel we can do to give you a better value.

Sincerely,

Mohammed Thomad, P.E., S.E.

Focus on Constructability

Bell1Constructability is the application of construction knowledge and experience into the design process to achieve the most efficient and effective results. The construction industry is currently facing intense economic pressures. Experiencing problems during construction will only increases costs.

Our team can bridge the gap between design and construction. We can do so by collaborating early in the planning and design phase to anticipate issues and develop creative solutions for each project. The results of constructability will be manifested in faster approvals, shortened schedules and ultimately reduced construction costs, even for the most challenging projects.

Early on, our engineers applied their knowledge of constructability to the Whittlesea-Bell Transportation Facility, as featured in this issue. By collaborating with the contractors, product suppliers, architect and other consultants, special constructability issues related to framing, detailing, fabrication, erection, camber, and tolerances were carefully incorporated into the construction documents. As a result, the project was completed on time and on budget.

Whittlesea-Bell Transportation Facility
Bell2

The Whittlesea-Bell Transportation Company has recently celebrated the opening of their new facility located at 2000 Industrial Road, Las Vegas, NV 89102. THOMAD Engineering provided full structural egineering services for this challenging mixed-use project.

Pacific Design Concepts was the architect and Sacon Construction was the general contractor. Thomad collaborated with the architect, contractors, product suppliers and other consultants early on. Special design and construction issues related to interfacing with the existing structure, property line limitations due to adjacent railroad right-of-way, framing and detailing were carefully examined and incorporated into the construction documents. The project was completed on-schedule and on-budget.
