A Party in Piemonte
Vinchio Vaglio Serra's 50th Anniversary Celebration
The Ionia Atlantic crew recently returned from a trip to Italy for the 50th anniversary of the Vinchio Vaglio Serra winery. To celebrate the occasion, Vinchio Vaglio Serra's importers from around the world were invited to Piemonte for 3 days of festivities.
Highlights of the celebration included a helicopter tour over the vineyards and a vertical tasting of Vigne Vecchie with winemaker Giuliano Noe. The tasting was held in a hilltop vineyard with panoramic views of
the beautiful Piemonte region.
Piemonte holds a special place in the hearts of Ionia Atlantic. Not only for the incomparable wine, but also the breathtaking scenery, unsurpassed cuisine, and warmth of the Piemontese people. We are truly grateful to Vinchio Vaglio Serra for inviting us to visit their spectacular region once again. One of the greatest pleasures of our business is finding fantastic wine handcrafted by caring and likeminded individuals. Grazie to everyone in the towns of Vinchio and Vaglio Serra!

Goretti: Great Time & Great Wine in Umbria!
Below: Sarah Goretti presents the Goretti wines to Ionia Atlantic. Photo by Laura Reed of Corktree Creative.
On our recent trip to Italy, our team had the great fortune to visit the Goretti family vineyards and winery, where our prized Sagrantino di Montefalco is made. Driving south from the coast of Liguria, we arrived in Pila, a small town near Perugia, where Sara Goretti greeted us at the winery. Sara showed us around the estate, and presented the family's wines in a 13th century tower located on the property. The Goretti family wines are exceptional, from the bright and fruity Grechetto to the rich and complex Sagrantino di Montefalco. As with all of our producers, the careful selection and great care with which these wines are crafted is immediately evident. Our tasting included all of the wines produced by the Goretti family, and we came away with some tough decisions to make: which wines to add to the portfolio? We continued the tour of the estate, which made it easy to understand why the Goretti family wines are so wonderful: painstaking care and meticulous craftsmanship. After the tasting and tour, we were kindly escorted by Sara's grandmother and grandfather to their lake house on Lago Trasimeno. There, we dined with the family and enjoyed a typical Umbrian meal: prosciutto and figs, a wonderful pasta, and roasted duck, chicken, and rabbit for the main course! The meal was our best of the trip, and all created by Sara's grandmother. The view from the lake house was amazing, and the generosity of the Goretti's unmatched. Look for the following wines from the Goretti family in the coming months: * "Le Mura Saracene" Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG - Available now * Goretti Grechetto DOC Colli Perugini (Grechetto is a white varietal widely grown in Umbria) * "Le Mura Saracene" Rosso di Montefalco DOCG (made from Sangiovese, Merlot, and Sagrantino) * Goretti "Il Santo" - Vin Santo, a classic Italian dessert wine Thanks to Sara and all the Goretti family for a wonderful time! |
New Wines Have Arrived!
Just in time for the big Fall season of wine sales, we have a few very exciting wines to announce. To please our supporters with a sweet tooth, we introduce Vinchio Vaglio Serra "Vigne Rare" Moscato and "La Passione". These two wines are similar to our Moscato d'Asti and Brachetto; lightly sparkling and just sweet enough. They are definite crowd pleasers for your holiday dessert courses! For the value conscious, we now have Vinchio Vaglio Serra "Kroara" Cortese in the Bag in Box format, a crisp white wine at a value price for all your parties this season. And for the serious wine connoiseur we are proud to announce "Il Griso", a Roero Arneis DOCG. "Il Griso" is a fantastic, very small production white wine that pairs well with green herbs, seafood, and light poultry dishes.

Recipe & Wine Pairing
This dish is a great way to use up the last of your basil harvest. During our trip to Italy, I learned that boiled potatoes are often added to the pasta. If you wish to try this version, finely dice peeled potatoes and cook with the pasta. Remember, if you are able to use fresh pasta the cooking time will only be a few minutes and you will need to start the potatoes several minutes earlier.
1 lb pasta (preferably fresh trofie) 1 cup fresh basil leaves, gently washed and dried 1 T pine nuts
1 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice 2 large garlic cloves, crushed
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmigiano or Pecorino cheese Olive Oil Salt Heat your salted pasta water early, so that it's at a rolling boil when you need it. In a food processor, pulse basil, pine nuts, garlic, a pinch of salt, and lemon juice until finely chopped. Turn to low and slowly drizzle olive oil until a paste is formed.
Toss the paste with the cooked pasta until thoroughly combined. Sprinkle with cheese and toss a few more times. Salt to taste after the cheese, as it will add some saltiness. ”Buon Appetito! Pair with Vinchio Vaglio Serra "Il Griso" Roero Arneis.
