Grand Petit Market
2017 Chouteau Ave
St. Louis, Missouri

The  focus of Grand Petit Market is to provide good wines that are affordable enough  for every day consumption.  They accomplish this by offering an international selection of wines under $20.  You'll find several Ionia Atlantic wines on the shelf, including Vinchio Vaglio Serra Brachetto and Moscato, and Seiterre Le Capannelle to name a few.  As the value section of our portfolio grows, we hope to see more and more on the shelves at this lovely market.

Informative and fun wine classes are offered frequently by Wine Director and Ceritified Sommelier Scott Gaghan, who oversees the wine selection at Grand Petite, as well as St. Louis restaurants Eleven Eleven Mississippi and Vin de Set.  The next class is Champagne & Sparkling Wine on September 10th.  The cost is only $25.00 and includes light appetizers.  The Market also offers monthly cooking classes, taught by Eleven Eleven Mississippi and Vin de Set culinary professionals.

Grand Petite Market is warm and inviting and though the wine selection may not be the biggest in the city, you can be sure anything you select is great quality and an excellent value.

Prosecco: Perfection
A Delightful Way to Sip Through Summer

PizzolatoProsecco is an Italian sparkling wine from the Veneto region.  Both of Ionia Atlantic's selections are made from 100% Prosecco grapes, but other grapes such as Chardonnay are permitted to make Prosecco.

Prosecco can be made as a Spumante (sparkling) or a Frizzante (lightly sparkling, fizzy).  They are typically dry, but just a touch sweeter than Champagne.  Common characteristics include apple, pear, and peach, with touches of yeast and almond.

Many Prosecco producers, including both of ours, use the French Champagne terms for indicating dryness.  From dry to sweet, they are: Extra Brut, Brut, Extra Dry, Sec, Demi Sec, and Doux.  The most popular are Brut and Extra Dry.  With their middle of the road nature they are pleasing to the palate and great for food pairing.

Ionia Atlantic imports La Cantina Pizzolato and Terre Domini Prosecco.  Both are Spumante and both are Extra Dry, though I feel the Pizzolato offering has a bit more fruit to it, making it seem the sweeter of the two.  Excellent prices, refreshing qualities, and great mixability make Prosecco my favorite warm weather drink.
Exciting New Wines For Summer

Ionia Atlantic has added two fantastic summer wines to the portfolio.  Vinchio Vaglio Serra "Kroara" Cortese and Terre Domini Prosecco are now in stock and ready to freshen up your patio parties!
KroaraW

From Piemonte, VVS "Kroara" Cortese is made from 100% Cortese grapes, the same grape used for prestigious Gavi.  This crisp white wine offers a fresh bouquet with hints of minerality, and a palate of tropical fruits and citrusy acidity.  With a fantastic retail price of under $10.00, this wine can't be beat for sipping in the summer heat.

Sparkling wine and summer go hand in hand for me, so I'm excited to announce a second Prosecco in our portfolio.  Terre Domini Prosecco is an Extra Dry Spumante with even, creamy bubbles, and fresh golden apple and peach on the palate and nose.  Made from 100% Prosecco grapes and grown in the hilly area near Treviso in the Veneto.  It is excellent as an aperitif, celebration wine, or to make a fresh peach Bellini.

Recipe & Wine Pairing
Insalata Caprese

Insalata Caprese is a simple dish that many people try to improve upon with bold flavors such as balsamic vinegar.  It is important to use the freshest ingredients for traditional Insalata Caprese.  With quality tomatoes and mozzarella, this dish needs no improvement.  Therefore summer is the perfect time to enjoy Insalata Caprese.

1 large fresh tomato, such as a beefsteak
1 fresh mozzarella ball (about 1/4 lb)
1 handful fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces
Olive Oil
Salt

Slice the tomato and mozzarella into 1/4 inch slices and layer onto circle or oval platter.  Alternate one slice tomato then one slice mozzarella.  Sprinkle with basil.  Your goal is to have a colorful dish representing the colors of the Italian flag.

Drizzle with high quality olive oil and sprinkle with salt to taste.  ”Buon Appetito!

Insalata Caprese is an light and refreshing first course that is great paired with a light red such as Vinchio Vaglio Serra "Kroara" Barbera or a crisp white like the "Kroara" Cortese.

Ionia Atlantic was formed from a passion for great wine and Italian lifestyle. Wonderful wines are found throughout the world, but we believe the most exciting, historic and diverse land for wine is Italy. We strive to share the fruits of this beautiful land by offering traditional, artisan wines with competitive pricing.
