Sagrantino di Montefalco
Rare, Delicious, & Now Available from Ionia Atlantic
From the small town of Montefalco in Umbria comes a grape not grown anywhere else in the world; Sagrantino. Planting has increased in recent years, yet a current estimate showed only around 1,200 acres of Sagrantino. This thick skinned grape produces monstrous red wine with characteristics of dark fruit and berries, tobacco, and very big tannins. Sagrantino is very age-worthy, with many projected to have 20+ years to reach their peak. Though huge wines, they are often known to have relatively short finishes.
Goretti "Le Mura Saracene" Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG 2004 is now in stock. 88 points Wine Spectator. 2004 is regarded as an outstanding vintage and we're certain this wine won't disappoint. It is the perfect wine for Cabernet Sauvignon lovers who have been skepitical of trying Italian wines.
Be sure to let Sagrantino decant and pair with full-flavor dishes such as steak, lamb, and duck.

Calling All Corks! Recycling More Than Just Bottles
 1. Polish off a bottle of Ionia Atlantic wine. (Today I'm thinking Andrea Felici Verdicchio) 2. Rinse the bottle and throw it in the recycle bin. 3. Toss the cork into yet another overflowing bucket of used corks.....SCRATCH THAT! 4. Admit that I will never get around to making enough corkboards, trivets, and garden sculptures to use the number of corks I have saved. 5. Send corks to a recycling facility so they have more purpose than collecting dust or becoming landfill. Cork is a natural, renewable, biodegradable resource made from the bark of Quercia da Sughero, or Cork Oak trees. Cork is being used more and more for flooring, insulation, and a wide variety of other applications. If you ship small quantities of cork to far off recycling plants, you may end up using more resources than you are trying to save. Research the recycling facilities in your area and find the best fit. www.ReCorkAmerica.com has great information and expanding collection locations on the west coast. Right here in Missouri, Yemm & Hart Green Materials ( www.yemmhart.com) has a new cork recycling program. They will even let you send them your synthetic stoppers and find some way to recycle them.
Cork Tree Creative ( www.corktreecreative.com) of Edwardsville, Illinois is now collecting corks from St. Louis and Metro East St. Louis businesses to deliver to Yemm & Hart for recycling. For more information on Cork Tree Creative's cork recycling, contact Laura Reed at 618.656.7333. Encourage your local wine retailer to join this very important movement! |
New Distribution Rhode Island and Tennessee
We are pleased to welcome two new distributors to the Ionia Atlantic family. Our wines are now available in Rhode Island through a partnership with LaMessineo Distributors in Coventry. LaMessineo was founded by Raymond Lajoie out of a love for fine wine, good conversation, and entertaining. It is a young company based on the principles of exceptional service and products. We are proud to have LaMessineo representing our Casisano Colombaio, Vinchio Vaglio Serra, Terre Domini "The Paradise", and Canonica a Cerreto brands in the state of Rhode Island. We have expanded our distribution network in Tennessee with the addition of OMNI-Beverage Fine Wine Distributors, based in Nashville. OMNI is a division of DET Distributing and is now selling Majnoni Guicciardini Chianti, Goretti Sagrantino di Montefalco, Castellari Bergaglio Gavi di Gavi, Valamasca Moscato d'Asti, and Collina Serragrilli "Grillo Rosso" Langhe Rosso. We are happy to have Damian Serong and his team on our side and know they will represent Ionia Atlantic well. |
Recipe & Wine Pairing
Trota all Griglia : Grilled Trout
4 Whole Trout, cleaned and gutted 2-3 Tablespoons Olive Oil 4 Garlic Cloves, Crushed 4 Sprigs Fresh Rosemary 1 Lemon, Sliced 1/4 inch thick then cut in half to create 8 thin wedges, remaining lemon used for juice Freshly Ground Black Pepper Salt
Heat a charcoal grill to medium high, with coals distributed evenly. Rinse the trout well and pat dry. Lay out 4 sheets of aluminum foil, each large enough for one fish. Rub olive oil over the outside skin of trout to lightly coat and drizzle oil inside each fish. Place each fish on a piece of foil. Stuff each trout with two lemon wedges, one garlic clove, and one rosemary sprig. Squeeze lemon juice over each fish. Sprinkle trout inside and out with salt and pepper. Close foil over the top of fish, pinching the edges to seal. Grill for approximately 20-30 minutes, or until fish is cooked through. Carefully open each foil packet, watching for steam. ¡Buon Appetito!
An excellent match for Castellari Bergaglio "Pilin" Gavi | |

Ionia Atlantic was formed from a passion for great wine and Italian lifestyle. Wonderful wines are found throughout the world, but we believe the most exciting, historic and diverse land for wine is Italy. We strive to share the fruits of this beautiful land by offering traditional, artisan wines with competitive pricing.
