2010 FPA of Michigan President
Sandy Adams

Wow!  It is only March and already the FPA of Michigan is off and running!

Our DO ONE THING challenge is off to a great start and is proving to motivate and energize the Chapter.  Already this year...

  • We have added several new committee members
  • We participated in a pro bono event at JA Park in Detroit
  • We have begun interviewing for our first intern for the FPA of Michigan
  • We have many improvements and enhancements to our new website
  • We have been busy contacting and communicating with State legislators to communicate on behalf of the FPA and its members regarding the pending service tax legislation
  • We have made plans to hold our second Collaborative Case Study event in May
  • We have made plans to run our second Mentorship program in May
  • We have begun placing speakers for our Annual Symposium in September
  • AND we have held 3 education events across the state (with more to come)

Our Chapter is in motion!  Join us as we continue to develop and provide opportunities for members to be educated, develop and network.  Watch for our important ongoing communications via e-mail, or feel free to visit our website any time for updates (www.fpami.com).

Members all over the state are Doing their One Thing.  How about YOU?  What's YOUR One Thing?  Please take a moment to let us know what you're doing and where you're doing it...we'd love to share your ideas with others.  [admin@fpami.com  to submit feedback]

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Junior Achievement Finance Park

On February 24, 2010, FPA of Michigan members Karen Norman, Sandy Adams, Claudia Freeman, John Rohrbeck and Jason Moore spent the day volunteering to help students at Junior Achievement's Finance Park.  Here's what some of the volunteers had to say about the day...

  • JA Day was a great experience.  Not only is the facility engaging for the students (and volunteers!), but being able to watch middle school kids live in the adult world for the day was enlightening.  I witnessed huge leaps in the kids' understanding of financial issues in just a few hours.  You don't want to miss the next JA Day!  Sandy Adams
  • This was the first time I volunteered with FPA at JA Finance Park and it was a great experience.  We had 55 middle school kids participate and I was impressed.  The teachers had done a lot of pre-work and the kids were focused and engaged in the assignments.  I helped one girl with her monthly budget and she had a lot of money left over at the end of the month.  She asked what she should do with the extra money and I said she could save it or invest it.  One of her friends jumped in and said: "Or, you could have really good parties".  It was fun and I've already offered to do it again.  John Rohrbeck
  • I had a great time working with the kids at the JA Park event. It is really a unique opportunity for children to feel like adults for one day.  Jason Moore

Important FPA Legislative Action Request
Evelyn N. MacIntyre, CFP®
Government Relations Chair

On March 10th you should have received a request from Dan Barry of FPA National Government Relations to send an email or make a call in support of Senator Kohl's provision to regulate financial planners.

If you have already responded to it, I thank you.  If not, please find the email and forward your response.  You can copy and paste the attachment to an email or call Hillary at the Senator's office. There is language to guide you either way. I responded with an email and it was very easy to do.  You can customize it or send the basic text.  The most important of all is your response.

If you have any questions or cannot locate the email, please contact Mary at the FPA of Michigan Chapter Office (admin@fpami.com) and she can send you another copy of the email.

FPA of Michigan's Website Survey
On March 9th, the FPA of Michigan Communication and Technology Committee sent a survey to our members asking for your feedback on the new FPA of Michigan website.  Please take a few minutes to visit our new website and answer the survey.  If you do not remember receiving the survey, click here to take the survey right now.  There is also a form on the website where you can send us your feedback and suggestions for ideas to help enhance the website for our members.

Please be sure and visit the
new website at www.fpami.com
