A Word from Max
A few weeks ago we introduced to you our new Discipleship Pastor, Aaron Read. Aaron comes to us with over 16 years of experience in building disciples and leading ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ. I am excited he is on the team. As he assumes leadership, you will see a renewed emphasis on Family Groups, and on building authentic disciples as the core of who we are.
Here at The Family Church we consider Family Groups to be the principle disciple building ministry. I thought now would be a good time to review the marks of a healthy Family Group. With special thanks to Pastor Rick Warren for his thoughts on the subject, here are Seven Marks of a Healthy Small Group based on Acts 2:42-47.

Whispers in the Dark
Scripture: "Who may ascend to the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not set his mind on what is false, and who has not sworn deceitfully....Lift up your heads, you gates! Rise up, ancient doors. Then the King of Glory will come in!" (Psalm 24:3-4, 7)
Observation: Because of the complete holiness of the Lord the requirements for those who would ascend to God are strict. Clean hands and a pure heart are the only acceptable condition. The challenge, of course, is that no one has clean hands or a pure heart...at least not by the standards of God. Thus, the psalm could almost be a psalm of despair. And yet...and yet, our God has made it known from the beginning that His aim was to make His dwelling place with His people. The people rejoice when the command goes out to throw open the ancient doors and lift up the gates...the King of Glory is coming in! He is moving to us! What a gracious and loving God we have. He is still holy, however, and desires for His dwelling place to be kept holy. That was the reason for all the purification rituals and sacrifices around the tabernacle and the Temple. In Jesus Christ, however, the Temple, the dwelling place of the King of Glory becomes the hearts of believers. He still desires to dwell with us. And because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which brings us righteousness, I can celebrate with the psalmist, open those ancient doors; the King of Glory is coming in!

BIG BANG OR BIG BUST? By Stephen F. Larner, PhD
How did our universe come into existence? Nearly all modern evolutionary cosmologists believe the universe launched itself into existence by a 'big bang'1 about 15 billion years ago. Sir Fred Hoyle, who coined the term 'big bang', was one of Britain's best-known mathematicians and astronomers in the last half of the 20th century. In the 1940s, he, along with Hermann Bondi and Thomas Gold, proposed an alternative theory, the 'steady state' theory, a belief that the universe had no beginning or end, but always existed and would continue to exist.1 These men, strong humanists, rejected any theory that had a beginning because that would point to a Beginner. Their bias was so intense they were even willing to violate the fundamental Law of Conservation of Mass/Energy, which states that mass/energy in the universe can neither be created nor destroyed, a fundamental law consistent with Genesis-God's creation of the universe was completed after six days.
