City of Alma Welcomes Artisan Businesses to the Central Business District
artisan
The Alma City Commission recently adopted Ordinance No. 727 which will now allow artisans and craftsmen to locate, manufacture and sell their wares in the Central Business District.  The ordinance defines an artisan as a skilled manual worker who crafts items, including but not limited to food, clothing, jewelry, household items, pottery, sculptures and tools.

Under this ordinance an artisan may establish a studio within the B-1 Central Business District for the purpose of onsite production or assembly of handmade items, their display and sale.

It is hoped that this ordinance will promote new opportunities for our citizens to display and promote their talents.

Know When to Fold 'Em

Gambling in Michigan has changed.  What was once a relatively rare activity, it is now estimated that 84% of Michigan residents have gambled.  Community health officials estimate that approximately 4% of people who gamble ultimately become addicted.  In Michigan, this translates to about 300,000 cumplusive gamblers.  Our community is impacted when someone becomes adicted to gambling.  This may be seen in home foreclosures, family problems or an increase in local crime.

Concerned that you may have a gambling problem?  Don't leave your life up to chance.  Visit the Gratiot County Substance Abuse Coalition (GCSAC) website to take a quick quiz or dial 2-1-1 and talk to one of the referall specialists (call 1-888-636-4211 in limited areas).
