Philippines Flooding and Landslides

Greetings!

As I pondered what to write about this month, I was reminded that there are bigger things out there than my blog and my day job as a geotechnical engineer in the dry desert southwest US. I saw a number of news articles on the horrible flooding and landslides that have been occurring in various portions of the Philippines as a result of some severe Typhoons.

The AP reports that 818 Phillipino people lost their life in Tropical Storm Ketsana which struck on September 16 and Typhoon Parma which struck on October 3. Now Typhoon Lupit is bearing down on them with the threat of even more flooding, landslides and devastation. My thoughts and prayers go out the those people at this difficult time.

Regards,
