The Problem of Geo-Searching

Greetings!

I'm all about website technology, mashups, open source scripts...the geek stuff that makes GeoPrac cool. Lately I've been working on a new Twitter feature. I hope to have something ready before next month's newsletter.

But I found something frustrating...and interesting from a social perspective. While trying to sift through Tweets on earthquakes, landslides and other terms, it's amazing to see how the language of geology has penetrated pop culture. It seems to be prevalent on Twitter even more, at least for earthquakes and landslides. Keep your eye out for the new Twitter feature.

Regards,

Randy Post, Owner/Editor - GeoPrac.net
Part 3 of VBA and Excel Article Series Excel and VBA for Engineers and Scientists - Part 3
The third of three articles on Excel and VBA for Scientists and Engineers has been published at long last! It builds on Part 1 and Part 2 and explains Excel's Range Object and provides an example of programming a Monte Carlo Simulation of a simple bearing capacity calculation that you can adapt to use for your own Excel models.

34th Southwest Geotechnical Conference
I don't get to attend too many conferences, but this one in Mid May was practically in my backyard in Phoenix. I got to attend for one of the days and was treated to some excellent presentations, a nice selection of exhibitors and not to mention some old friends and colleagues. I wrote up a summary of the conference and a couple of posts about two of the presentations:
