Marketing Committee Update: 

 

Planning an EVENT in downtown Mount Dora? Contact the marketing committee as soon as the details are available and we will make every effort to help market and support the event.

 

All MDVMBA members can benefit from the FREE ads in the Orlando Sentinel Spadea Wrap- Remember to submit your line or 2 of copy to promote your business each month. You must respond prior to deadline dates to be included in these ads.

VisitMountDora(tm) is now on VisitMountDora(tm) FaceBook Page.  Join our page and promote your business to over 800 followers and growing.  

 

The Florida Highwaymen Summer Art Show & Sale is just around the corner on August 13th and 14th.  Marketing efforts are focusing on this event and the upcoming Labor Day Celebration including fireworks.   

 

VisitMountDora(tm) stepped up to pay for the Labor Day Fireworks display after a successful event last year.

 

The Marketing Committee has successfully negotiated an even better advertising contract with Cox Media Group for ongoing monthly radio promotion.  Now we will have a radio promoted Mount Dora Getaway in addition to the successful Getaway Sweepstakes promoted via interent on WhatToDoInMountDora.com. 

 

Cox Media Group has also extended to us the benefit of exhibiting at their high profile events throughout Florida to promote Mount Dora even more effectively to event attendees.  Many of their events attract over 200,000 visitors such as the annual Fall Fiesta in the Park at Lake Eola.  We will be looking for volunteers in the future to assist us in manning the booth spaces at these events.  

 

The Marketing Committee is currently in discussions with the Orlando Sentinel to increase our sponsorship agreement for the 2011 Craft Fair.  The Sentinel provided us with over 100,000 event guides distributed throughout Central Florida in the Sunday paper prior to last year's Craft Fair.  This year the Sentinel is proposing reaching out to South Florida via the Sun Sentinel with the same insert.  Stay tuned for details. 

 

 

  



 

Events Committee Update:

 

The jury process is now complete for the 2011 Craft Fair applicants.  The acceptance letters will go out this week to nearly 400 exhibitors.  We are looking forward to a fabulous show.

 

We are delighted that the Mount Dora Police Department and the City of Mount Dora have approved the use of two Segways for our event staff during the Mount Dora Craft Fair.  Segway will become a Craft Fair sponsor as a result of this arrangement.

We would like to officially welcome Rori Paul as the newest member of the VisitMountDora(tm) Board of Directors.  Rori comes to us with an impressive resume and the talent to make an immediate impact on the Mount Dora scene.

Rori has been visiting and travel writing about Mount Dora for over two years now.  She is something of a Social Media guru to say the least!  Rori has published articles about Mount Dora in the Orlando Sentinel and GalTime.com just to name a couple of outlets her work may be found.

We will be looking forward to working with her as we strive to put feet on the street of Mount Dora.

The Dora Dollars Program is a VisitMountDora(tm) member benefit only!  As of July 31st Dora Dollars will only be valid at participating members of Visit Mount Dora(tm).  Many non-members are submitting Dora Dollars and benefiting from our promotional efforts, the VisitMountDora(tm) Board of Directors and members feel that it is time for all businesses to show some support by joining VisitMountDora(tm).

From the Board of Directors:

At the July 13th Board meeting the Board of Directors approved the following:

* Budgeted $500 for the Dora Dollar prize to award to the raffle drawing winner in the 2011 Florida Highwaymen Art Walk.  The drawing will consist of two prizes of $250 each.

* Unanimously agreed to present Rori Paul to the membership at the July 27th Meet & Greet as the newest VisitMountDora(tm) Board Member.

* Budgeted $3000 for entertainment during the October Craft Fair on Saturday and Sunday.  The entertainment will be provided by the Mount Dora Music Festival on Saturday and the Blues & Wine Festival on Sunday.  Both groups have joined the association membership as a result of this arrangement.

* Budgeted $50 per month for ongoing maintenance of area underneath and surrounding the association billboard on Highway 441 across the street from Renningers.

* Approved the Marketing Committee to explore rotating the billboard 45 degrees to face southbound 441 traffic.

* Considering expanding association role in the Blues & Wine Festival.  The Board will be reviewing the P&L statements of the event.

The Florida Highwaymen Art Walk is underway.  Thanks to the 17 locations hosting the art work for the next two weeks.  The event culminates with the weekend festivities of the two day Florida Highwaymen Art Show & Sale on August 13th and 14th.
