From the President:
To: All
Association Members and Friends.
From : Terrance (Terry) R. Abbott, R.N.,
Association President, Events Chair and Maggie's Attic.
Hello.
As most of you already
know, I was recently elected by the Board to serve as President of the
Association by our Board. It was not a position I sought but it was felt by the
Board that it was one I should take on. I hope that all can agree with their
decision. With this in mind it is my strong desire to be the right one on this
position and to do a good job not only for the Association but for Mount Dora as
well.
We are already half way
through one of the three slowest months of the year and I am extremely hopeful
that all are able to make the profit they need. Also we are just around 60 days
from this years Craft Fair. The start of the season is just around the corner. I
look forward with great anticipation this years season as it promises to be far
better than those of recent history and to add to what has already proven to be
better summer.
I am also nearing the
end of my second year as a member of the Association's Board. With the new
duties of President I have had to take the time to reflect on what has already
been accomplished in these all to short two years and what yet we need to
accomplish. In two years we have,
-
Started the first comprehensive
marketing campaign that I believe we are seeing the effects of, as all should
be noticing an increased number of visitors in town during these slow
months.
-
Increased the number of events by
adding the Florida Highwayman in one of the three slowest months of
the year. Something all have desired.
-
Increased the number of visitors
during our events. The Craft show attendance last year was estimated to
be 265,000 and the Spring Collectibles and Crafts went from an estimated
8000 attendees to 55,000.
-
More than doubled the Associations
revenue in the first year and we are well on the way to tripling it since I
was elected.
-
Begun the processes which are
necessary to create a successful Farmer's Market.
These are just a few of your
Boards accomplishments for these last two years. And all of them will pale in
comparison with another accomplishment that I hope we will soon have completed.
This accomplishment is the revision of the Association's by-laws. In this last
three weeks I have put a lot of effort to this goal. I was also asked by an
association member to look at the work that had been done by the by-laws
committee. I have done this. I have also reviewed the Articles of Incorporation
for the Association, old Association by-laws, the proposed by law changes voted
on by the members last November, the working document used by the by-laws
committee and the final by-laws proposal received from our lawyers.
This effort has taken some
time but worth it. In reviewing all these items I believe the changes made
accomplishes what the members voted that we accomplish last November. The
meeting this Wednesday is for the members to ask questions and discuss proposed
changes. I strongly encourage you to attend the meeting and give your voice to
this process.
Sincerely Terrance (Terry)
Abbott, R.N., Board President.
