From the Board of Directors:
* The Board of Directors is happy to announce that it will be presenting Thora Storm, the owner of The Frosty Mug, before the General Membership on July 28th to be confirmed as the newest Board Member.
* The Board of Directors convened this week in a special meeting to complete the review of the new proposed association By-Laws drafted by our legal counsel Bogin, Munns & Munns. These By-Laws will be sent to the membership prior to the July 28 meeting and the Board will be asking for membership approval to officially adopt the new By-Laws at that time.
* A Labor Day Event is being planned including fireworks in conjunction with the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Mount Dora, Community Trust, Rotary and Kiwanis. The event will feature a town wide side walk sale, a chili cook-off, live entertainment and fireworks. Paula Briskin is our representative on the committee putting together the details of the event. Stay tuned.
* 2011 association budget discussions are underway. The Board will present the 2011 budget at the annual meeting of the association at the end of October for approval. We are expecting an increase in income from the new booth pricing structure at the Craft Fair. We are hoping this will not be offset by rising City fees and event grant reductions.
* The application for street closures for the 2010 Christmas Walk is being submitted to the City soon. The Board approved a plan that includes leaving 5th Ave. open and Donnelly St. north of 5th Ave. to allow for better parking and less congestion.
* The association is going to sponsor a Grand Prize for a winner of an art contest that will raise money for the Music Festival. The Grand Prize will consist of $100 Dora Dollars, $100 wine basket from Maggie's Attic & $100 Gift Certificate to Tremain Street Cottages. If you are interested in donating to the cause please contact Nancy Howell at (352) 383-2627. The winning piece of art will be on display in Mount Dora from September to February in various downtown locations.
* The Board approved $500 Dora Dollars to be allocated for the upcoming Art Walk grand prize winner. The Art Walk begins on July 30th and continues through August 13th.
