HUBZone Certification
 
HUBZone Logo
HUBZone is a program administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA) and is designed to provide federal contracting assistance for qualified small business concerns located in historically underutilized business zones in an effort to increase employment opportunities, investment, and economic development in such areas.
 
The federal government's stated goal is to acquire at least 3% of total annual purchases from qualified HUBZone small business concerns.  In 2008 that amounted to over $10 billion.  In addition to direct HUBZone acquisitions, government contractors are expected to meet the same goals in terms of what they acquire from their supply chain.  Most medium to large defense contractors work very hard at this.
 
If you are working with defense contractors of any size where an RFP calls out a coated surface finish, please be aware that RIE's HUBZone status can help you to be more competitive.
