Dear Friends,
As many of you prepare to wrap up busy season this year, the pace is picking back up here at GWSCPA with lots of springtime events and finalization of plans for next year. As you'll see below we are offering some interesting new CPE programs designed specifically for our members' interest areas, as well as some fun social events like Night at the Races, to give everyone a chance to cut loose with other wild and crazy accountants, all while supporting future CPA scholarships.
On the Mobility front we continue to make progress, and I anticipate that we will get to a public hearing on that legislation soon. I'll be providing a more detailed update at our April Membership Meeting, so please plan to join us and let em know if you are willing to help in that effort.
Sincerely,
Kari Bedell
Executive Director

The Profession
Nominations for the AICPA Outstanding CPA in Government award for 2011 The AICPA is looking for nominations for Outstanding CPAs in Government. The deadline is May 14th. The AICPA Outstanding CPA in Government Award has two major purposes. The first is to recognize the achievements of individual CPAs employed in government at the local, state and federal level. The second is to promote the CPA designation as the premier professional credential for accounting, auditing, and finance professionals in government. This award gives the AICPA the opportunity to positively recognize the achievements of outstanding CPAs in government. Please take time to nominate a deserving CPA today. CPAs are the best when it comes to filing your taxes A great example of why a CPA is the best way to get your taxes done. CBS has a Florida couple use three methods of doing their taxes, and the couple has the best result by using a CPA. See the results here. Regulatory and Legislative News
Senate approves 1099 Bill Repeal
The Senate has passed H.R. 4 which repeals the 1099 reporting provisions for businesses and for rental properties. The vote was 87-12.
Since the House has already passed this bill, and the Senate made no modifications, it now goes to President Obama for his signature. Although the President has indicated that he opposes the "pay-for" provision that's included in the bill, he has supported the repeal of the 1099 reporting requirements, and we expect him to sign the bill into law.
