Greetings!
Well, the school year is in full swing now and I have to say that here at GWSCPA---we are seeing more student participation than ever. Certainly we owe much of that to the very active event calendar of our YEA young professionals committee, as they welcome students members and future accountants to join in their activities from parties and baseball games to leadership development sessions and community service.
One program we are especially excited about is an upcoming Take a Closer Look at CPAs series highlighting the wide range of opportunities that a CPA career can provide. The YEAs, with lots of help from our two super young interns from AU (Thanks Dylan and Subomi!) are hard at work putting together our November Forensic Accountants panel, and we'll offer 2 or 3 more evening events in this series aimed at DC area students during the coming school year.
Our huge influx of new students members can also be attributed to our stepped up efforts to support future CPAs through our annual Scholarship Program (The 2011 competition was just announced) and the new educator newsletter -Adding It Up-which we're using to keep local accounting professors and university staff informed and connected to the Society.
So get ready to see some new younger faces at Society events. We love the energy our student members are bringing to our activities, and they are eager to connect with, and learn from, their more experienced peers-- our respected longtime members.
Sincerely,
Kari Bedell |
