Another summer seems to be flying by here in our very hot and humid Nationa's Capital. Activity is still humming along here at the GWSCPA, with August Staff Training's nearly every day and planning for our fall events. We hope that you have had the opportuntity to enjoy some much needed vacation though--or that you have one coming up soon!
When you do find yourself with some downtime this month, be sure to take a few minutes to update your Find A CPA profile on our all new website, if you haven't already done so. This new resource is available to Members-Only, but you must opt-in to be included. You can list your areas of expertise, contact info, even your photo! This section of our new website is the primary source for the DC area public to find a CPA suited to their specific needs.
In the coming weeks, the GWSCPA is going to be marketing this section of the site heavily and doing a lot of community outreach--so you will want to be sure you are listed! We want our members to succeed in all they do, and we're working to help you in every way we can.
The site is built to be user-friendly, but if you run into any difficulty, just call us. We'll gladly walk you through the process or help you change your information.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and we'll see you soon!
Sincerely,
Kari Bedell
Executive Director

IRS offering Non-Profits a Chance to Save Status Many small not-for-profit organizations are at risk of losing their tax-exempt status because they failed to file required returns for 2007, 2008, and 2009. The IRS is offering these organizations a chance keep their status by filing returns by Oct. 15, 2010, under a one-time relief program offered by the Internal Revenue Service. Accountingweb.com has details on how these non-profits can file. IRS Announces Fees for PTIN The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has proposed charging an annual fee of $50 to issue or renew a required Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). This is another step in the IRS' plan to regulate all tax preparers by the next filing season. PTIN applications and renewals would be handled by a third-party vendor, who could also charge a fee on top of the IRS fee. No vendor or fee amount has been announced to date.
