New AICPA Health Care Reform White Paper Addresses the Implications for CPAs Working in Practice and Industry

The AICPA's recently published white paper, Health Care Reform:A Primer for CPAs, provides a comprehensive overview of the laws' provisions and corresponding implications for CPAs who are working in practice and industry. It addresses the unique "need to know" information of each, categorized by employer size and individuals so CPAs can quickly get to the content that matters most. To learn more about this complex legislation, AICPA members may access the full white paper on the Research page at AICPA.org.

DC Council Considers New Sales Tax Expansion

In the last week, the DC City Council has been in the early stages of considering a proposal to add new sales taxes to some services in the District. The measure is being supported by the DC Fiscal Policy Institute, the Fair Budget Coalition and others in order to add revenue to the District's bottom line.

Businesses that would be affected include health clubs, pet grooming, day spas, yoga and massage services, various cleaning services and more. Representatives of those that would be impacted turned out in force to flood the council with protest calls and emails.  Check out a recent Washington Ppost article about this issue and see a full list of targeted businesses here.
