Dear Friends ,
With budgets tight, now is the time to think about moving to Firm/Organizational Membership. Through Firm Membership, each of your staff becomes a full fledged member of the GWSCPA and your firm gets added benefits as well. If you are already paying for GWSCPA membership for some staff, you may find that you can actually save money and offer everyone an outstanding employee benefit through a Firm/Organizational Membership!
Participation on a firm or organization level provides each of the professionals on your staff with education, networking and business opportunities at a substantially reduced cost over individual membership. And when your professional team members take advantage of GWSCPA's programs, the member discounts and other benefits more than pay for their annual membership dues.
Firm Membership Rates for FY2010 All Firm Members pay an initial fee of $395 and each accounting staff person is included at $100 per employee.
(Firm Memberships are capped at $8500 no matter how many staff are included. ) Firm Member Benefits · One simple annual dues payment, based on your firm's size, allows all firm accounting professionals to join the GWSCPA. o Each employee joins in his or her own membership category and will receive an individual Membership Certificate with their member number and access to the full range of GWSCPA member benefits. o New employees can be added any time during the year - included in this year's annual fee. o Membership is open to both CPA and non-CPA accounting professionals. · Firm Member staff receive a 20% or more discount on CPE and other events from GWSCPA's programs, as well as reciprocal discounts with our neighboring CPA Societies. · Firm Members are listed in our online referral service and will be featured even more prominently on our soon-to-be re-designed website.
If interested, just give us a call-and please join us in welcoming those Firms/Organizations that have already committed this year!

Red Flag Rules delayed until June 1, 2010
On October 30, the Federal Trade Commission announced it was delaying enforcement of its "Red Flags" Rule until June 1, 2010, for financial institutions and creditors subject to the FTC.
The action was in response to a request from Congress, which was encouraged to pursue the delay by numerous organizations, including GWSCPA and the AICPA. The AICPA is continuing to seek an exemption for CPAs and CPA firms before the rule takes effect next year.
Enforcement of the rule was scheduled to have become effective on Sunday, November 1.
New York Tax Preparer Registration
The state of New York has passed legislation requiring all tax preparers filing New York tax returns in the state to register with the Department of Taxation. Additionally, those filing a certain number of returns must pay a $100 fee. As passed, the legislation exempts New York CPAs, but not out-of-state licensees and is set to go into effect December 31, 2009. There are efforts underway to exempt out-of-state CPAs and their staff. In the meantime, find out details at the New York State Dept. of Taxation website. |
