On the evening of October 11, 2012 history will once again be made in Independence National Historical Park as hundreds of guests will assemble for a night of festivity, reflection, revelry and honors.
We will gather in the old Visitor Center which will soon be replaced with the brand new American Revolution Center for cocktails and entertainment and tour the First Bank of the United States, a building that has not been open to the public in almost 20 years. For dinner we will walk across the bricks and cobblestones to a clear top tent on Dock Street with the Merchant Exchange Building as our back drop.
Here we will dine, we will laugh and we will honor our glorious 40 years of supporting the Best Park in History! During this evening, we will pay tribute to two of our founders who set the precedent for what it means to be a Friend of Independence, Hobie and Addie-Lou Cawood.
Hobie was the Superintendent of the park who started the Friends when he saw that a support organization was needed to help the park get ready for the Bicentennial. Addie-Lou was on the original committee that started the Friends and, once incorporated, became a Board Member. Together they spent 19 years in this park making it the place to visit.
So Save the Date, because on October 11, 2012 (10:11:12)
We will celebrate...
We will commemorate....
We will write a new chapter in the history books.
