Independence Hall and the American Civil War
Location: Portrait Gallery in the Second Bank of the U. S.
Time: 3:00 to 4 PM
Between May 3 and 6, 1862 Major General Charles F. Smith lay in state inside Independence Hall. A native of Philadelphia, Smith was the highest ranking officer to lie in state in the building during the Civil War. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of this event, join a park ranger for a slide program highlighting the role of Independence Hall during the American Civil War.

Each spring the Overbrook Farms Open House Tour and Tea offers visitors a peek inside of magnificent buildings in this celebrated community. From extraordinary private homes to notable historic churches, the self guided walking tour acquaints visitors with the outstanding architecture of this planned turn-of-the-century railroad suburb.
This event features a formal tea held at Ivy Hall, an elegant Georgian Revival style mansion with paired chimneys, Palladian windows, and a grand ballroom. Proceeds from this event support the civic and community initiatives of the Overbrook Farms Club.

This self-guided walking tour of Philadelphia's oldest neighborhood features a range of beautifully restored and renovated houses and styles, from 18th century trinities to 20th century homes, traditional to contemporary. The tour also includes two historic churches and two community gardens as well as an annual arts fair in Mario Lanza Park (200 block of Catharine St).

Building of the Year Tour - June 10, 2012
