Building of the Year
Join the Friends of Independence in our Third Year of offering our Members-Only Building of the Year program! This year we will be featuring Germantown White House.
The oldest remaining presidential residence, the Germantown White House, twice sheltered George Washington. In October 1793, he found refuge during the Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia. Continuing the business of government, he held four cabinet meetings here. The next summer, it was a welcome retreat for him and his family near Philadelphia, the Federal Capital.
Please join us as we take an in-depth look at this summer retreat of the first president and the neighboring house, Bringhurst. Listen to our Rangers as they discuss the history and significance of the house and follow along with our curators as they present the new exhibits recently installed and the artifacts on display.

Wines of the Continental Congress
A presentation by Pinot Boutique
During the years of 1774 to 1789, delegates from the thirteen colonies gathered together to ultimately decide the fate of our nation and become the first governing body. These groups of men were called the Continental Congress and under them, we declared our independence from Great Britain. Many famous historical figures were part of this group, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams; the men we would eventually recognize as our Founding Fathers.
But what were the Founding Father's doing when they were not declaring independence, fighting for our freedom and creating a nation? They were living their lives, going to meetings, hosting events for families and friends and the common element in all of this is that they would have served wine for each event.
Come discover and experience the wines enjoyed by our Founding Fathers. Hosted by Pinot Boutique and the Friends of Independence, on October 18, 2012 at 6:30 Pm, come to Pinot Boutique for an evening of Wine Tasting and a lesson in history.
Time: 6:30 to 7:30 PM
Where: : Pinot Boutique 227 Market Street Philadelphia, PA 19106
Cost: Members $15.00, General Public $20.00
*Seating is limited.
