Reserve your spot for the Cradle of Liberty Program

June 23, 2011, 6:30-8 p.m.-Cradle of Liberty

Philadelphia gained fame for its role in the American Revolution. How have Philadelphians continued to pursue freedom and social justice, and what legacy does this create for the future?  This panel will be moderated by Richard Beeman of the University of Pennsylvania with panelists including Gary Nash of UCLA; Michael Coard of the Avenging the Ancestors Coalition; and Richard Newman of the Rochester Institute of Technology. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to offer suggestions for The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia, a digital information project currently in its planning stages.   Teachers may receive Act 48 credit for attending this program. To prime the discussion, look for Gary Nash's essay on The Cradle of Liberty in the Currents section of the Philadelphia Inquirer on Sunday, June 19, followed also by posting on this Web site and on Newsworks.org

The event will be held at the National Constitution Center.

Program brought to you by the Greater Philadelphia Roundtable

The Greater Philadelphia Roundtable: Join in a discussion of Philadelphia history and issues, and help to shape the project to create an Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia! During 2011-12, our theme is "Phrasing Philadelphia," as we take a look behind the slogans for the history and ideas that unite and sometimes divide us.
