is Opening
The President's House: Freedom and Slavery in the Making of a New Nation will officially open on Wednesday, December 15, 2010.

In honor of this opening, Independence National Historical Park will be presenting illustrated, ranger led programs every day starting December 7th and lasting till December 31st.

Location: Theater One of the Independence Visitor Center, 6th and Market Streets

Time: 12 noon
Program lasts approximately half hour

   

Don't  Forget the Friends

The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) will be ending on December 10, 2010.  If you haven't made your contribution yet or haven't finalized your paperwork, please remember the Friends of Independence.  Our number is

The CFC is for Federal employees who wish to contribute to their favorite charities via payroll deductions.  Last year alone, Federal employees contributed over $2,900,000 in support of local, national and international charities.

The Decorative Scrim is Here!!!!! 
 

The Friends of Independence is happy to announce that the Decorative Scrim is currently installed on Independence Hall Tower and it is truly dressing up the Tower just in time for the Holidays.

 

Thank you to our Sponsors for generous support and for making this project possible.  Thank you to Independence National Historical Park for letting us play a small part in the impressive history of this magnificent building and most importantly, thank you to all of our members and Friends for helping us along the way. 

 

If you haven't seen them yet, make sure you visit our Wayside informational signs located across Chestnut Street from Independence Hall and behind the building to learn more about the project and the scrim.

Join Us for our Ribbon-cutting Ceremony 
 
Independence Hall Decorative ScrimThe Friends of Independence are hosting an end of the year thank you party and you are invited. 

This year the Friends, with the support of all of our sponsors have raised the funds needed to wrap a Decorative Scrim around Independence Hall while it undergoes restoration.  Join us as we "cut" the ribbon on the Decorative Scrim and say thank you to all the people who supported this wonderful cause.

Join us as we enjoy tasty treats prepared by Chef Felix Maietta of the Downtown Club, listen to the sweet sounds of LB Jazz +One and enjoy the company of a few good Friends.

This event is opened to members* only and invitations have been sent out.  Please mail back your RSVP or register for the event on our website.
* Must be a current member and in good standing. If you are not a member but would like to attend, please contact the Friends office at 215-861-4971.  If you are a member but have not received an invite, please call us.

Pennsport Parks' Holiday Open House Tour

Come celebrate the holidays with the Pennsport Parks Holiday Open House Tour.  The Friends of Dickinson Square and Jefferson Square Parks have joined forces to raise funds for the upkeep of these Pennsport Parks.  Originally developed during the colonial period, Pennsport boasts architectural gems of great historic significance. 

           

Take a stroll through one of the oldest neighborhoods in South Philadelphia to tour homes ranging from the nineteenth-century to the contemporary and post-modern.  This self guided tour will give you the chance to explore homes featuring meticulous historic restoration, sophisticated contemporary designs and in some locations, festive holiday spirit.

Advance purchases are encouraged. To reserve your spot and purchase a ticket, Call the Friends of Dickinson Square Park at 215-685-1885 and leave a message or email info@dickinsonsquare.org

  • Tickets can also be purchased on the day of the tour at the Parsons Building
