Pre-Race/Clinic Letter for NAV TEXAS this Sunday

Location: Huntsville State Park

The course is set and ready to go! So dust off those compasses and head NORTH to Huntsville.

9:00am PRE-RACE MEETING

9:30am RACE START

9:35am CLINIC START

1:00pm RACE/CLINIC CUT OFF - 1 CP DEDUCTION PER 1 MIN. AFTER 1:05

The park charges a $5 per-person entrance fee - please pay at booth upon entry.

TA is located at the Group Screened Shelter (GSS) off the main drive to yur left after entering the park. We will have a sign and/or banner on the road.

RACE: A Navigation based race consisting of trekking & biking. Participants will navigate to as many points as possible with in a 4 hour time limit (Changed from 3 hour). This is for anyone that has basic knowledge of navigation from beginner to expert. You will be required to first get a specific number of check points on foot, return to TA, then get the remainder on your bike. While the second section is a bike, you will have to trek portions of the bike leg. Team members must stay within 30 seconds of each other. Solo racers you must stay within 30 seconds of yourself. The person or persons with the most checkpoints (there are 16 cps) in the shortest amount of time WINS FREE entry in TEXAS QUEST in April. (1 entry - $140 Value). There will also be prizes for 2nd and 3rd places.

You must have a HELMET on while riding your bike.
Oh - a compass, bike computer, and UTM tool would help

Food and water

CLINIC:We will also be teaching navigation in a Nav Clinic for beginner and intermediate racers wanting to learn navigation skills or brush up on their existing navigation skills. The clinic will start immediately after the race begins. For the clinic participants there will be a short navigation course with REAL checkpoints for you to go find at the end of the instructional portion of the clinic.

Compass - I do have 3 or 4 inexpensive ones I can loan out

Map case - Large zip lock will do

Pen - to plot cps on map

UTM tool - we will provide for you, courtesy of MAD ATHLETE

Bike computer - though not mandatory - we will be covering its use.
