Huntsville Hammer Adventure Race
Pre-Race Letter #1 Oct.30,2009
Hello Adventure Racers!
The race and all its components are coming together VERY nicely. We are looking forward to a fun race in a GREAT location with awesome weather.
First and foremost anything in this letter overrides the website.
- Boat drop will be disclosed on Thursday Nov 12.
- Boat drop will open at 6 am race morning. Leave your PFDs and paddles with your boat. Rentals will already have PFDs and paddles - however you must go to the boat drop, pick them out, unload your boat from the trailer and put it with your paddles and PFDs. It is a 45 minute round trip - provided you don't spend alot of time at the drop site. The site will be manned the ENTIRE time boats are present.
- If you drop food or water with your boat -you MUST take what is left after the paddle with you until you reach TA again. NOTHING can be left at the boat drop once you leave except your boat, paddles, and PFDs. No trash, food, wrappers, clothes, NOTHING.
- There will be a check-in Friday night at the Group Screened Shelter from 6pm-7:30pm. The boat drop will not be open then.
- There will also be check in starting at 6am Saturday morning and ending at 8 am.
- If you must procrastinate to the very end and register on race day - which I don't recommend - then please fill out the registration form below BEFORE you get to the race site. Or just sign up online and be done with it!
- Pre-race meeting is at 8:15 am
- Race start at 8:30 am
- As you can see the timeline is tight so please have everything you need to check in and be ready to go when you get there. Your entire team needs to be present to check in.
- Please register online if possible to eliminate long lines at check in. There is online check or CC - no fees or accounts.
- Below you will see a link for the Canoe Rental form the park requires us to fill out for each team that rents a canoe. Sprint only. Please have this already filled out before you get to the race site.
- If you don't have a USARA license you are required to purchase one for this race. The link below is the paper work required to purchase this license. Print and fill out before getting to the race site. We will take payment once you arrive. EVERY racer must have a USARA license. One day is $8, One year is $35.
- Huntsville State park campsites are all full for the weekend of the race. If you want to camp there is a first come first serve area in Sam Houston National Forest - about 20 minutes away - Stubblefield overflow. This also means there will be little campers running around - so always have their best interest in mind when on the trails and roads in and around the park.
- There is a FAQ section that every racer should read. The link is below.
- There WILL be a gear check on the course so be sure to have all your required gear for the entire race.
- 12 Hour racers will most likely need hand lamps for the end of the race. It gets dark around 7 ish.
- If you have rented a canoe - please check the team list to make sure we have one reserved for you. Also check the team list to make sure you are actualy registered. HERE is the list.
4 things that you MAY need to do before you get to the race site:
1. Race day registration form , print and fill out. This is for the procrastinators who are not already registered. HERE Waiver and License form HERE. Must do both if race day register. Have filled out BEFORE you get to race site.
2. Print and fill out Canoe Rental formHERE if renting a canoe.
3. USARA license print and fill out - pay at check in HERE. Do this if you don't have a current USARA license. Again have this ready BEFORE you get to the race site.
4. Read the FAQ section HERE. May answer some questions not covered here.
5. Read the race rules HERE
