The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools Safe and Supportive Schools (S3) Technical Assistance Center announces its first Webinar event for FY2011.

Making the Case for the Importance of School Climate and Its Measurement

  • During this Webinar, participants will learn about:
  • Safe and Supportive School Models;
  • Frameworks for understanding school climate;
  • Integration of school climate in creating safe and healthy learning environments;
  • Strategies for communicating the importance of school climate to different stakeholders; and
  • Characteristics of good school climate surveys.

Presentations will include:

1. The linkages between school climate and children's academic and non-academic development.

Presenter: David Osher, Principal Investigator for the Safe and Supportive Schools Technical Assistance Center

 2. OSDFS model of school climate, best practices in communicating the importance of school climate to stakeholders, and characteristics of good school climate measures.

Presenter: Dr. Chris Boccanfuso, Research Scientist at Child Trends,

Audience: This Webinar is appropriate for school district superintendents and allied staff, school administrators and support staff, school climate teams, and teachers.

Information on how to connect to each Webinar will be sent to those who register before the event. 

In addition, The S3 Technical Assistance Center will be hosting two series of Webinars in FY2011: one focused on surveys and the other on school climate. Each Webinar will be offered twice to accommodate schedules.
