Dear ,
Did you know that in 1971:
- A gallon of gas cost 40 cents
- Simon & Garfunkel and the Carpenters swept the Grammys
- Paul McCartney announced the formation of his group Wings, and John Lennon left the UK for NYC
- A new stock market index called the NASDAQ debuted
- Intel released world's first microprocessor
And a young Cal Poly professor named Clifton Swanson decided San Luis Obispo would be a great place for a classical music festival. And it was.
Forty years later, we're still presenting a unique musical experience on the Central Coast.
Our 40th Anniversary Season, July 15-25, celebrates musical Origins - works that came into into being under unusual circumstances.
The 2010 Summer Program explores unrequited love, political oppression, the horrors of war and other influences that resulted in works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Dvořák, Ravel, Ginastera, Lutoslawski, and contemporary American composers Paul Schoenfield and Patrick Zimmerli. In response to high demand last summer, we have programmed more of the popular Notable Encounter events, in which the musicians lead interactive performances and discussions of this summer's featured works. We also continue our concert series at Hearst Castle, among many other historic venues.
Fewer seats are available at the Festival this year, so please don't wait - we want you to experience the Festival in the very best seats. Single tickets will go on sale to the public on June 1.
If you have any questions, call us! We look forward to assisting you in any way we can.
We look forward to celebrating our birthday with you all this July!
