MYTH VS FACT
MYTH: The LighterLife Programmes are only 12 weeks long. | |
FACT: No they are not. I think this myth came from the original design of the Programme where clients spent the first 14 weeks in the Foundation stage before moving on to the Development stage to carry on losing weight and then when they reached their healthy BMI (between 20 and 25) they spent 12 weeks in Route to Management to complete their Programme.
The whole Programme has never been set at 12 weeks long - it can't be as everyone has different amounts of weight to lose so it's impossible to set a time line. The aim of the Programme is for you to reach a BMI of 25 at least in order to reach a healthy body (for men we use a guidelines of a 37" waist being a healthy body as their muscle mass may make BMI 25 too low for them).
Once you have joined the Programme you stay in your original group until you are a BMI of between 20 and 25 (your choice where you want to be) and then you complete the new 8 stage Phase One Management stages in order to complete the Programme.

Healthy News and Advice

Many people think that a glass of fruit juice is a healthy alternative to cola or lemonade, but, do you know that a 500ml bottle of orange juice actually contains 225 calories (about the same as a Twirl chocolate bar), along with 10 teaspoons of sugar, which although "natural" is just as harmful to your teeth - and health - as added sugar.
However, this doesn't mean you should ditch is altogether, just have it in small amounts (150ml max) and dilute it 50/50 with water to count as one fruit portion. | |

Initial Consultations. What and Why?
LighterLife is a medically approved and monitored Life Style Change Programme. Because of that we need to see potential new clients at a Initial Consultation for several reasons:
- To check you are medically OK to go onto a very low calorie diet. Some conditions, such as Type 1 Diabetes are not suitable.
- To advise you which of the Programmes (Lite or Total) you are suitable for.
- To give you all the information you need about the commitment to the Programme to enable you to make an informed choice about whether or not this is the right weight loss solution for you.
- If you need medical approval to join, to give you the document you need to gain this.
It is not:
- An attempt to "hard sell" you onto the Programme. That would be pointless. Success on LighterLife is down to you and your attitude towards it.

New Free Weight Tracker App
For the first time, and launching TODAY!!, LighterLife have created a free weight tracker App which can be downloaded from the Apple iTunes app store. It will be accessible across desktop, tablet and smartphones. It will also be viewable online as a web app via a web link.
The weight tracker app allows clients and non-clients to track their weight loss progress. All they have to do is input their weight on a regular basis and then an easy-to-read graph illustrates their journey towards a healthy BMI (between 20 and 25).
Key features and benefits include:
- Completely free to download
- A secure-log-in system
- A guide to your BMI (Body Mass Index) and health information about your BMI.
- An easy-to-use BMI calculator.
- Separate BMI and weight tracker graphs.
- An option to set weekly or monthly reminders to input your weight.
- A postcode finder to identify the closest LighterLife group.
Over time LighterLife plans to update the app with added functionality and rich conent. this is just the beginning - watch this space for more.....

Pauline Quirke's New Book
Where have I gone?
"Pauline Quirke was a skinny child, a slim teenager, a curvy woman, then - according to her bathroom scales (curse them) - just plan fat. Yes, the "F" word. Tipping ths scales at nearly 20 stones, with creaking knees and a dodgy ankle to boot, at the beginning of 2011 Pauline had reached a crisis point. something had to change, and fast....."
I've only just bought this myself (Amazon from £7). the intro describes it as "Honest and revealing, brimming with brilliantly funny anecdotes and truly moving moments" so I'm looking forward to a good read.

Jeff joined the Men's Total Programme in August 2011 at a BMI of 33 (obese). By November 2011 he had successfully slimmed down to a very healthy BMI of 23.6. This is his journey in his own words: "Following a period of illness I had become very over weight and very unfit. I was finding myself feeling more and more tired, lethargic and generally uncomfortable. I was buying clothes that would fit rather than the ones I liked and my self esteem was very low. I was avoiding playing with the kids, walking the dog and, any form of exercise because I was embarrassed by how it made me feel. Consequently I became withdrawn and got stuck in a vicious circle of eating more and drinking more just to feel better. I was also very conscious of getting older as the big 50 approached. Why Lighterlife? I needed a structured disciplined process that I could engage with. The promise of rapid weight loss which could be sustained, coupled with weekly counselling/support sessions appeared ideal. The fact that the process promised a "Lifestyle change" not just a diet sounded just what I required. What has it meant to me? Lighterlife has proved to be everything it promised.
