Interdom Newsletter June 2011

Interdom InternsInteRDom began 2011 with the debut of the short program, "Expert in the Spanish Caribbean" for a group of students from the University of Rhode Island, and it will continue to develop its repertoire of short programs this summer.  In addition to its regular 10-week Caribbean Summer program for individual students, a group from the City College of New York will travel to the Dominican Republic in June for a 4-week service learning trip focused on economic development in the bateyes.

In July, another group of students from Livingstone College in North Carolina will travel to Santo Domingo for one week of intensive Spanish classes and field trips through which they will learn about the colonial history and modern culture of the Dominican Republic.

Finally, in early July, InteRDom will host the week-long field trip portion of Yale and NYU's Summer Institute for Educators, which will explore the effects of colonialism in Latin America on modern identity and offer strategies on how to integrate these themes into the classroom.

You can get more information and frequent updates all summer long on all of InteRDom's 2011 summer programs on the InteRDom website.
