When the sun comes out, I feel a penetrating warmth across my back as I walk through the Intervale farmland of Burlington.

And these wonderful shining rays illuminate - what? Piles of old snow, fields of monotonous brown, tree limbs in various shades of gray. Here and there, I see a spark of color as a cardinal flits by or a red branch gleams.

I used to dislike this time of year because I had no anticipatience. That's a combination of anticipation and patience. I wanted heat and lush beauty - NOW! None of this icy morning stuff and drab landscapes.

Now I understand. My face muscles relax into a smile as I turn and the intermittent sun strikes them. I breath in a hint of thawing earth. My mind expands to encompass all that is. It sure feels good to greet this great promise with tenderness and faith.

Anticipatience - I think I can put it to use often.
