November Meeting Notes

Speaker

Craig Miller,
Division Director of Operations for the HSHS Medical Group

Craig spoke about the Medical Group, which was formed in 2008 and hired its first provider in 2009. Now the group has over 200 providers and 700 employees, with 4 total locations. The MacArthur Priority Care was used as a model for the three new locations. The goal of the new group is to remove the administrative tasks from physicians to free them to care for patients. The MacArthur facility is open 9am to 8pm, seven days and week, and the group of mostly primary care physicians serves 120-140 patients a day. There are plans for additional landscaping at the MacArthur Priority Care.

Government Update

Joe McMenamin, Alderman Ward 7

Alderman McMenamin discussed the Hy-Vee grocery store, saying Hy-Vee's plans show more trees than required by the City landscape ordinance.

Joe said the MacArthur Park Apartments are having ongoing inspections, with 28 additional units inspected each month.

Cory Jobe, Alderman Ward 6

Alderman Jobe talked about TIF Districts throughout the city and specifically mentioned the importance of economic incentives for development in the 2nd and 3rd rings of the City, particularly Old Aristocracy Hill, Iles Park, and Vinegar Hill.

Cory said the Ward 6 Fund now has $9,000, which will be used for revitalization and rehabilitation in Ward 6.

MacArthur Area News
  • MBBA President Debbie Cimarossa wrote an opinion piece about the MacArthur area for the Springfield Business Journal that appeared in the November issue.
  • The purchase of Federated Funeral Directors at 1622 S. MacArthur was also in the November Springfield Business Journal.
  • Hy-Vee representatives held an information meeting for neighbors of their proposed grocery store and convenience store development on the previous Kmart property on November 10. Their request for conditional permitted uses for drive-up lanes, packaged liquor sales, and a pharmacy canopy went to the Zoning Committee November 16, which unanimously recommended approval.  The request will go to the City Council on December 20.
