MacArthur
Area Notes
AMC will
own the former Esquire property once
the sale from Kerasotes is complete.
There was a
discussion about a street name change
for part of MacArthur Boulevard. If the new extension south of Wabash to 72 is
to be named "MacArthur Boulevard",
then the small stretch of MacArthur
Boulevard currently south of Wabash
will need to be renamed. It was unclear
who is sponsoring this change or what the timeframe is. ____________________________________________________
In December, 2009, Blessed Sacrament Parish announced they have
reached $4.5 million in their capital campaign to renovate and expand
Blessed Sacrament School. The "Building on Tradition" capital campaign
kicked off in June with a goal of $5.4 million.
The planned expansion will include four components: a new library
to serve the academic and technological needs of the entire student
body, a gymnasium for physical education and athletic programming, a
new preschool wing to serve the youngest of students, and a new entry
and administrative wing. Adding these new elements that serve the whole
school community will free up classroom space on the original side of
the school building to address growing enrollment numbers. Construction on the expansion will begin in the spring of 2010. Read more about the project on their website...

David
Farrell mentioned Springfield Green's plans to line the new MacArthur Boulevard with trees.
The MBBA has talked to the owners of the previous K-Mart building and asked them to sign a Trespass Agreement with
the Springfield Police Department and to paint over graffiti. They are considering the requests. Cory said he had talked to Steve Luker, the
owners' real estate representative, who said all the company's properties were
redeveloped except the old K-Mart.
Deputy Chief Doug Williams of the Springfield Police Department said recently that a special
burglary initiative using covert surveillance has been successful in
apprehending more than 30 suspects throughout Springfield, representing 5-6 groups of
burglars. Unfortunately, the
perpetrators are quickly back out on the street. Williams strongly encourages residents and
property owners to report suspicious activity to the Springfield Police dispatch number, 217- 788-8311,
especially strangers knocking on doors.
A report by a resident can provide probable cause to approach a suspect
and possibly avoid a burglary. ______________________________________________________
