"A Paradise for the Kids"
Every week in our updates we will give you a little history of one of the children at the home. This weeks child is Catherine Campano.
On April 5, 2002 we received a visit from a woman who had a letter from Department of Social Welfare and Development asking us if we would take her three grandchildren - Catherine, Kevin George and Teresita. The lady informed us that she had just brought her grandchildren to DSWD and they had referred her to Subic Bay Children's Home.
Catherine has not seen her parents for many years. Her mother left her family for another man. Shortly thereafter her father left her and her siblings with their grandmother with the promise that he would return for them once he had found a stable job. Catherine's grandmother worked in the market selling vegetables from four in the morning until ten in the evening. Since the grandmother only makes P100.00 pesos ($2.00) a day she could not afford a baby sitter for her grandchildren so every day Catherine would roam around the market. The market where Catherine's grandmother worked is located in Pag-asa, a part of Olongapo which is very notorious of all the drug pushers and addicts.
On April 6, 2002 Catherine was taken into Subic Bay Children's Home. Catherine was a malnourished and had a large stomach due to worms. She was dewormed and brought to the hospital for a medical check- up.
Catherine is now a healthy young lady and she is studying at Subic Bay Christian Academy. We praise God that Catherine was brought to Subic Bay Children's Home while she was still young. Let us Pray together that the Lord will use Catherine in a strong and mighty way.
Personal Note: During my visits I got to be around Catherine a lot. She is a very soft spoken and sweet young lady. |
