"A Paradise for the Kids"
Every week in our updates we will give you a little history of one of the children at the home. This weeks child is Therisita Campano (Nick name - Naneng).
On April 5, 2002, we received a visit from a woman who had a letter from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The letter was asking if we would take the lady's three grandchildren; Catherine, Kevin Jorge and Theresita. The lady informed us that she had brought her grandchildren to DSWD and that DSWD had referred her to Subic Bay Children's Home.
Theresita has not seen her parents for many years. Her mother left her and her family for another man. Shortly thereafter her father left them with their grandmother with the promise that he would return for them once he had found a stable job. Theresita's father never returned.
Theresita's grandmother worked in the market selling vegetables from 4AM until to 10PM. Since her grandmother only made P100 pesos ($2.00) a day she could not afford a baby sitter for her grandchildren. So everyday Theresita would roam around the market. The market where Theresita's grandmother worked is located in Pag-asa, a part of Olongapo which is very notorious for drug pushers and addicts. At a very young age Theresita was introduced to the world of street children. She learned to beg and pickpocket.
On April 6, 2002, Theresita was taken into Subic Bay Children's Home. She was malnourished and had a large stomach due to worms. She was dewormed and taken to the hospital for a medical check up. Theresita is now very healthy and striving. Theresita is learning to sing and recite Bible verses.
We praise God that Theresita was brought to us while she was still young. Let us pray that the Lord will use Theresita in a mighty way.
